DVD Profiler
http://www.invelos.com/dvdpro/Info.aspx
This is easily the best 30$ I have ever spent for my dvd collection. Mere words cannot express the awesomness of dvd profiler. If you have any sort of movie collection, you owe it to yourself to buy this program. You will thank me later, I promise.
The trial version lets you put in a maximum of 50 movies, and all the covers DL in low rez. The full version will update everything to high rez and also let you store your collection online. I input everything on my PC, the uploaded my profile. I installed the program on my laptop and downloaded everything from my onlne profile.
The sorting abilities are stupid fun, as are the graphs. My oldest movie was made in 1954 (White Christmas). My longest running dvd is Greys Anatomy Season 2 (1175 minutes). I own 68 movies that were produced in 2004, and only 28 from 2007. I own more comadies than any other genre.
I give this my absolute highest rating possible. Movies are easy to add, and there are more features than any sane person could ever want or need. I was just DLing some custom profiles last night and found over 30 different ways to print out your collection for various coffee table books, ranging from simple blocks of movie covers to complex full color page layouts for each film. They even had a print out for slim cases, which I will use once I start to burn the majoirty of my collection and sell the originals.
One of the cutom profiles has a wikipedia page built in. Select a movie in your collection and you'll also have the wikipedia page displayed for that film. Cool stuff!

Re: DVD Profiler
What does it have as far as tracking where you store each DVD? Is there a good way to say it's in "Bin #1" or on "Shelf X"? I looked into this after you mentioned it in another thread, and it looked pretty cool, but I have boxes full of DVDs and need a good way to track that DVD is in Box #1, Slot #225 and such.

Re: DVD Profiler
Yes, it allows for slot numbering and viewing based on that system of organization. I'm not certian on boxing though. I'm pretty sure you could make a custom way to label if you wanted.
Re: DVD Profiler
DVD Profiler are THE tool for any movie collector. I have used it since 2000 or so, and i got 412 movies on it by now. And have added a fair share of movies and pics to the database too. I even got my grandmother to use it to register her DVD collection (yep, shes using it on her 30+ movies, and remembering to upload it to her online collection too
).
Btw, if you got over 50 movies, register it. Its a one time fee, and REALLY worth it.
Oh, and if you run into a problem with UPC codes belonging to the wrong movies, its because some dumbass stores buy some cheap DVDs (never seen it on full price DVDs, just bargain bin junk) and dont want to register 50 or 100 UPC numbers in their system, so they get the maker to make a new cover ALL with same UPC, so they can just put in 1 UPC for all the movies. But it wreak havoc on DVD Profiler, since you will conflicts. In that case, scan the cover of your DVD, and register/upload your movie and remember to add the scan WITH the UPC code showing, and tell them about the problem, and a 2nd (or more) movie will be added to that UPC.

I used to use it all the time until v3 came out and they were bought (or whatever) by Invelos. Then for awhile there it looked like it was dead. Anyway, my online collection no longer shows up. Oh well. It worked well enough when I used it though and the online thing was nice.

For those that can't read "Ö", I'll translate some of the selections:
Han kom, Han så, Han skød (Han Came, Han Saw, Han Shit)
Rødt Chok (Rodent Cock)
Ørkenens Sønner: Gå aldrig tilbage til en fuser (Orgasmic Summer: Gays always teabag until enfeugo)
Most of the other titles are in English!

Re: DVD Profiler
Hey, its NOT chronologically, i had to redo the order a few times to remove movies i gave away, and 2 times to fix a bug in the first release of DVD Profiler 3.0.
My first 2 movies were The Matrix and Blade Runner, so i should be excused
Han kom, han sp, han skød = Two Mules for Sister Sara
Rødt Chock = Don't Look Now
Ørkenens Sønner: Gå aldrig tilbage til en fuser = half standup/vaudeville, half dirty jokes danish show, not translated to english.

And wow, im not the only person to like The Aristocrats.
And you got Equilibrium (which for god know what reason got called Cubic here in europe
)
Frighteners, thats one great movie
And Un the Mouth of Madness, i thought i was the only one who knew the movie
. The best Lovecraft inspired movie to date
Lol, Monster Squad, i remember that one from my childhood. Wolfmen got nards?
And i want Black Sheep and Fido
. And hopefully theyll release a full Grindhouse pack with both movies, then ill buy it
(same with Kill Bill, i SO want a full 4 hour version, uncencored one)

You just need to install the new one. The old online collection will not work, but if you got the 2.X version, you can export the database, you might need to correct a few UPC numbers after though, since the new version use all the digits on the UPC.Aslanna wrote:I used to use it all the time until v3 came out and they were bought (or whatever) by Invelos. Re: DVD Profiler
I love DVD Profiler.
For the oppressed, peace is the absence of oppression, but for the oppressor, peace is the absence of resistance.
Re: DVD Profiler
Hmmm, I tried it out.
Added Hackers first. The image is very low res. Can't read the back text of the covers.
I tried adding Heavenly Forrest next. It couldn't find it by it's English title or Japanese title: Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru
edit: figured that out. Had to change to "any region" instead of United States to find the Asian stuff.
Since I don't have an unlimited version, the covers/back covers are so low res, you can't read the text. For those that have unlimited versions, are most of the covers high res and readable? (the back cover text)
Also, is there a way to link the thumbnails to the actual movie on your hard drive? That feature would make it a very useful app.
Edit: found "Movie Collector" which says it has this feature:
Not as spiffy as DVD Profiler but if I'm going to have a database of movies/TV series, I'd like to be able to play them right from the database. (since they're on my HD)

Re: DVD Profiler
Just a quick update on the Movie Collector app I mentioned above.
It's pretty nice. Not as polished as DVD Profiler but it does allow you to add direct links to your movies.
Here's an example for one of mine:
(spoilered due to size) The sources you choose while adding a new movie will also show as links on the display page (IMDB link for example)
The movie files you add are direct links and will open the movie into whatever you have as your default movie viewer.
You can search for movies to add using several sources: (including adult sources for you pr0n peeps)

You can prioritize the sources and also choose multiple sources if you wish to have more info displayed.
You can also tell it which source you want the front and back covers downloaded from. For Example, DVD Empire typically has the highest res covers so you can use the covers from that source no matter which source you choose for the details.
Lots of display options for the data, search by genre, genre folders, etc.
I like it because you can easily link to your movies, TV episodes, etc. If you ever moved your movie collection, you'd probably want to remap the new HD with the same drive letter so you wouldn't have to relink all of your movies!

It's also not free but you can find a hacked version of it on the newsgroups to try out.
You shouldn't be buying an app to track pirated movies anyway. What's wrong with you!
Besides the direct link to movie files (which some might really like), DVD Profiler looks like the better choice.

That's kinda nice. Looks like a hack:
Uses the note field so you have to cut/paste links there? I couldn't find a screenshot of it in action. If there's a browse feature to make entering file locations efficient it would make things easier.Execution (Updated 5/1/2008): LoadDVD creates a custom toolbar as each DVD profile is selected. The toolbar will have one icon for each disc defined in the profile. The icon drawing process may be too slow for some users' taste, so there is an option to use text that can be set in the LoadDVD options panel (Tools\View Plugins\LoadDVD\Options). If a menu is desired, use the context menu (right-click) in the Collections window, and you will see "Play/Retrieve Disc" with a submenu for each disk in the profile.
This plugin makes use of the "location", "slot" and "notes" fields of the Personal Information section of the DVD Profile. The use of the "notes" field is non-exclusive. You may still use the notes field just as it was intended. However, you may add file description information specially formatted for LoadDVD, described later.
The plugin itself might include a browse feature but I don't see one in the location mentioned in the paragraph above:

These are the instructions I found for files:
"Open" of a file located anywhere in the network environment. This is like "double click" on a file under Windows Explorer. The result of the open depends on the nature of the file and the type of file association that has been set up by you, windows or other applications.
Location: file
Slot: (not used)
Notes: [filepath]path to file that is to be opened[/filepath] - this sequence will be searched for and parsed anywhere in the notes field; beginning, middle or end.
Valid file paths are typical windows filepaths (without the quotes) such as:
"f:\2007OscarTrailers\LastKing.avi", or
"\\ISOARCHIVE\Action\MissionImpossible3.ISO".

Yes, it's all high res photos of both the front and back of the dvd. You can also scan your own pics if you want. There are some really interesting custom interfaces out there if you want something different. ALthough, I always seem to go back to the standard layout.

Re: DVD Profiler
Here's a great way to get photos of the majority of your actors.
I modifiyed the instructions a bit to be more in line with how I figured it out
A. Download the HMDB from http://dvdprofiler.com/Forums.aspx?task ... cID=287443
B. In DVDP: File | Restore Database
B. Browse to the location of the Master_Headshots_Backup.dpb file you just downloaded.
D. Select the file, click Open | Next
E. Uncheck all options except "Restore cast and crew databases (including photos)"
F. Select Let me Compare and click OK.
It's just one of those nice things to have pictures of all your stars. I have a hard time placing a face with a name on some of the more obscure character actors.
Happy movie watching!

Re: DVD Profiler
eh? What's a nude headshot? Someone not wearing makeup? Please Note: If you plan on adding nude headshots or adding unconfirmed Birth Years to cast/crew, please do not contribute any headshot updates. It takes a couple hours of rather boring and tedious effort to verify every BY and then removing the invalid ones before a database update is released.

A nice update went out recently, adding rotten tomato, metacritic, and user review icons. When you click on one of your movies, the score appears over each 3 icon. The tomato even turns to rotten!
Also, the guy who makes this is working on an iPad/iPhone version. He just made a post about it recently. I'm excited to see what it will look like.
EDIT: They also added a trailer icon. All movies in your collection now link to trailers of the films. Pretty cool!
