Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
Won passes to go see the first sneak preview last night, the press around town got to view it from the back of the theatre, bastards.
Jude Law was pretty believable as the "hero" of the movie, I thought. There are moments where Gwenneth Paltrow's character is just plain stupid and unbelievable. I found myself towards the second half of the movie asking where the hell was Angelina Jolie.
The movie's "look" is very unique in that it looks like an old time movie, as well as everthing being CG. It wasn't that distracting.
It kinda started off slow, then built up towards the end with more comedic value.

That woman is so insanely hot it's unbelieveable.
She was the main reason I was going to go see the movie..

I know I'm good at what I do, but I know I'm not the best.
But I guess that on the other hand, I could be like the rest.

I don't think she was tainted by Billy Bob Thornton. The more movies I see of his, the better actor I think he is. He just looks like and plays trailer trash type roles often.Deward wrote:I really don't think Angelina Jolie is that hot. Maybe I just don't go for the trashy type but in my eyes she was tainted for dating Billy Bob. Of course I like the lighter complexion in my women. Jolie just doesn't do it for me.
It doesn't get any better than Bad Santa! How many times do you think Angelina Jolie wasn't able to shit right for a week?

This movie is way too hyped. I heard an ad for it saying "If you don't like this movie, then you just don't like movies" or something to that effect. I can wait for this to be a blockbuster night in about 6 months or so.

Just saw it and I really liked it. I liked the style it gave it an old golden age mixed with modern age cinema feel to it. It kept reminding me of playing Crimson Skies, it felt like a mix of that with Indiana Jones. I also enjoyed the anime type robots. The story was formulaic, but passable. I really enjoyed the visuals more than the story.

Just got back from it, loved it and hated it. From an artistic standpoint, the visuals were great (if some really bad effects shots, matte lines, etc). The world was imaginative and very "authentic" for the old serials feeling it was trying to ape. Some of the acting was good... Jude Law was passable, Angelina Jolie was one of the highlights of the movie (a much too small highlight tho!), and Gwenyth Paltrow... well... let's just say she couldn't act her way out of an imaginary cardboard box. In fact, cardboard is the best word I can think of to describe her.
The story lagged a lot, I was spending a lot of time thinking "c'mon, get on with it already!". The lame jokes were hit and miss, mostly miss when uttered by the aforementioned Miss Paltrow.
I give it a 6 out of 10. It's probably a good one to see on the big screen, just don't go in expecting to be entertained by its acting and plot. Oh yea, and get used to a fuzzy picture. Grrrr

You think that just because a trailer is using a particular theme song that it has anything to do with the movie? Trailers are created way before the movie is completed, in fact even before it's edited, hence why sometimes you see clips that don't end up in the movie. Yeah it's annoying. Same goes for sound tracks. By the time trailers are created, movie sound tracks aren't even ready, hell, if they are original they won't even be composed yet. A film isn't created around music, the music is created around the film.

I think Gwynneth is way hotter than Angelina.

Yea, the total vacant look filling her eyes is way attractive! I'm sorry, her lack of ability deflects her looks. I'd still count myself lucky if I ever found myself with her, don't get me wrong! but no... at least Angelina Jolie is interesting and talented to a degree.masteen wrote:I think Gwynneth is way hotter than Angelina.
Gwenyth named her son/daughter whatever it was APPLE, come the fuck on, i would rather be named shitface then APPLE...seriously APPLE you dont name your kid APPLE she also has a very eerie resemblance to my bros ex fiance, never found her to be that attractive
Angelina is very attractive, yet in certain roles she can be very un-attractive, some people like her and milla jovovvich can look really good and/ or really bad at the same time!

I just saw this for the first time. I was very much entertained.

Re: Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
I always thought it was a decent movie. It had an "Indiana Jones" feel to it. It's nice to see people take chances in Hollywood once in awhile.
