XBOX 360 Cooler

Post by Siji »

Anyone have any experience with either of the following:

Intec XBOX 360 Cooling Station

Nyko Intercooler TS

I've recently relocated my 360's to an entertainment center and it builds up some pretty nifty heat, so I've been looking into these to see if they'd help or not. Any personal experiences?

* Note - the Nyko is the newer one that does not share the power supply with the 360, it has its own power supply.

I don't, I'd just interject one little thing to think about though; Microsoft seems to have an uncanny ability to tell if you've used one of those, and if you do they void the warranty. If you have a warranty through the store you bought it at or it's past warranty then you obviously don't care, but just something to think about.

This could be just me, but I assumed that simply downloading each game to the hard drive eliminated the use for cooling devices. That said, I have a 250 gb hd installed in the xbox for just games with a 1 tb my book networked to it for other media.

Both of my 360's (and PS3) are in open air environments. I've never noticed or been worried about any issues with overheating. I also install any 360 games I am currently playing. Uninstalling them is kind of a part of finishing a game for me. Gotta make room for the next one!

If I were ever worried about overheating, I wouldn't hesitate to doing something like you're currently considering.

EDIT: The Nyko looks more powerful, and I like the fact that it has it's own power source. However, it also looks like it could be loud as fuck. Which way do you have your 360 set up? Both of mine are horizontal.

I got the stand for my PS3 slim and the casing gets a lot less warm vertically than it did horizontally.

I also install every game to my 360's 120G HDD. I clean up every 6 months or so.

I had them horizontal before in a more open area, but now they're inside an entertainment center vertically. Not sure what installing the games to HDD would affect temperature wise (but I do that anyway), as I'm guessing most of the heat is coming from the CPU and the GPU versus the DVD drive or HDD. In any case, I wasn't concerned before but am now. I watched a movie via NetFlix through the 360 last night and afterward it was very noticeably hotter in the space around the 360.. and that was with the cabinet door open. I'd hate to think of how it'll be after several hours with a processor and graphics intensive game..

Also - I can't imagine these two models in any way voiding any warranty. Short of the fact that they "touch" the 360 case, they don't share the power supply so they're not altering or modifying the box in any way. The older model Nyko's did, but these don't.

Not sure how' they'd really help if it would still be in the entertainment center. That's what requires more ventilation not the xbox.
