Video Game Completion/Comparison Thread (PS3)

Post by Funkmasterr »

You know the drill, a little more light in the ass this time.

Games I have finished:
Killzone 2
Resistance 2
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune

Games I haven't finished:
Cross Edge
inFAMOUS
Jericho
Little Big Planet
Metal Gear Solid 4

I also have somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 PSN games. I'll list those some other time (when I have my PS3).

War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

I still haven't got more than like 10 minutes into MGS... I got irritated with some part where I'm supposed to hide in a dumpster and I kept getting discovered. I'll have to pick that one up and finish it sometime though.

Yea, I had a rough time getting through the first hour of the game but once it gets into gear, it's a pretty thrilling ride.
The boss fights are creative and innovative, the cut scenes are hollywood quality and the gameplay twists are bizarre/awesome.

Even if you're not a MGS fan, the story will totally suck you in.

inFAMOUS

This game was more a chore to complete than actually being fun. At least if completing every side mission. They should have stuck with Sly Cooper.

I can say that about a lot games. But once you get past the point of no return, you might as well push to the end! That is probbaly my main reason for jumping between so many games at any given time.

I really enjoyed my time with MGS4. Having not played any MGS games in the past this was a really fun time. If I were to go through it again, I'm positive that I could be a lot stealthier than I actually was. (I killed a LOT of guys...)

Finding those little nooks and crannies around the maps made it pretty interesting.

What I really hated were all the little pro-PS3 blurbs and the insane amount of Apple gear scattered around the game. Those totally broke immersion for me and were a real irritant.

I may get Metal Gear Solid as a PS1 classic for my PSP to play through that now. I'm intersted in what happened at Shadow Moses the first time around.

Haha, I actually think one of the best "tricks" ever pulled by a video game was the fight in one of the first couple MGS games where you had to plug your controller into the second player slot so dude couldn't "read your mind". I still think about that when I think of cool video game moments.

Yeah I got the platinum for the first one. I've just had so many games to play that I haven't got to it on the second, I just finally finished it the other day for the first time. Now just gotta play through on crushing and get a few of the other misc ones I didn't finish first time through.

Been a while since I played inFamous but I remember the stunts sucking ass.. Like hitting the button combos it said to do and it not working.

I have a ways to go in this game, however I didn't start it on hard so I'd have to play a second time through and I'm not sure I'll want to. That Blaster Runs Hot game is soooooo frustrating.. I keep getting to like 8-9k and getting pwned.

I'm actually on my third playthrough now. It goes a lot faster the second time around since you don't have to do the small planets again. That is assuming they were done previously. And once most of your weapons are leveled up you can pretty much just mow through stuff. I've gotten 9700 on MBRH then died twice. Hate that game! Those stupid tanks are what do me in.

Owned:

Resistance 1 and 2
LBP GOTY
Killzone 2
GoW collection
Valkyrie Chronicles
Demon's Souls
MGS 4
Infamous
Uncharted 1 and 2
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time

I'll get around to playing these eventually. My wife really wants to play LBP, so I may be doing that one first.

I picked up some DLC, including the LBP Pirates pack, Pixeljunk Shooter, Wipeout HD 2 pack, and Fat Princess.

Flower has me interested, but I think that's pretty much all the DLC I need from PSN for the duration. Finding those items to DL was a pain. Then you have to install them, which is also strange. When I DLed Wipeout, it DLed 2 demos and 2 unlocks for those demos. I had to install the games first, then the unlocks for each game. Pretty stupid IMO.

How is that stupid?
If someone downloads the demo and decide they want to buy the full game, they just have to download a 100k unlock.

The Wipeout package is a game + an expansion pack.

Finding those items to DL was a pain.
Yea I understand how clicking on PS Store, then clicking the category of what you want to download (addons, full games, etc) can be difficult. Especially when they file the content aphabetically or by genre.

We understand that you're a total MS fanboy anything that isn't xbox live is really, really confusing to you.. so if you need any help in understanding how the PS Store works, feel free to ask.

I'm sorry, I couldn't quite make out what you said, probably due to Sony's cock being lodged in your throat (see what I did there?!?). I think you both may have been a tad dramatic, however xbox live is clearly laid out better. It is nice when you download a Xbox Live game you don't have to wait for the download, install, then for an update to download and install. It is quicker, especially if you are downloading as much at once as he did.

Fair, I just got 100% of the trophies in PixelJunk Shooter and I liked it a lot.
[Show]
I'm not sure how I feel about the ending being a ...to be continued, clearly stating that you will have to get the DLC to see the ending of the game. That isn't to say I wouldn't have bought the DLC for it anyhow, it's just the principle. Other than that, no complaints at all, a very solid game!
It didn't take long to get through, probably only 5 or 6 hours or so to complete it. Well worth the $$ for it though.

EDIT: I thought it would be humorous to mention that I'm here posting right now because I'm waiting for a Killzone 2 map pack to download, at which point I'll launch the game which I would bet $100 will need to update and install....... So I had some time to burn :D

EDITEDIT: Flower is a cool game. I haven't finished it, but it is a very different game with very cool visuals and simple yet fun game play.

I think Xbox Live has a decent layout and it's pretty easy to find what you're looking for. I feel the same way about Steam.
All 3 are good services that make it easy to find what you're looking for.
It is nice when you download a Xbox Live game you don't have to wait for the download, install, then for an update to download and install. It is quicker, especially if you are downloading as much at once as he did.
You're just deceived into thinking it's quicker because those actions are 'hidden'. 8)

I think you both may have been a tad dramatic
Well of course.
People don't like change.
I really can understand how Fair could be a bit confused with the PS Store becuase it is laid out differently than XBox Live. I know I had a hard time finding stuff at first in the Windows/Xbox Marketplace but after checking it out a few times, I now find it pretty intuitive.

I had to read up it before I realized it was PSN only, so yeah, I'll DL that only after I beat Tools of Destruction. R&C are a tad behind in my que, but they were on sale so I figured what the hell.

It's not really much of a game from what I hear. You can pretty much skip it, save $15, and not be lost at all while playing Crack in Time. I think they overpriced it. $10 would have been more than enough for what you get.

I'm powering through Tools of Destruction now. After Dragon Age over the holidays(which I wanna get back to), it's a very pleasant change of pace. The humor is great and the platforming is as well. My only gripe is that they didn't go back and put in trophies with a patch.

I agree! They could have easily added trophies after the fact. Even if it was as simple as using the Skill Points to map some trophies. Some of those are tricky but I got them all. Tools of Destruction is also a bit buggy at times, as is Crack in Time, so patching for that at the same time would have been win-win. The PS2 Ratchet and Clank games seemed a lot more polished to me than the two PS3 ones I've played.

Anyway... Add Crack in Time to the Platinum list along with gaining all skill points and maxxing out every weapon. Not sure why there wasn't a reward for that though but oh well. I like to be thorough when it comes to R&C games! Also add Burnout Paradise to the done list! I don't know why I bought the PS3 version since I already finished it twice on the 360 but it was cheap. I suppose I'll Platinum it sometime in the near future since it's not really that hard just takes a bit of time.

Ok, I lied. Decided to go for platinum after letting it sit for over a month. This was one hard game for me to complete due to those combat challenges omg! Although if I can do it anyone can.
