This film is about a singer/songwriter from Dublin, who meets a girl and makes some music.
Boring premise I know, except this is actually a ridiculously beautiful, natural film. The music in it is fantastic (a bit like Damien Rice - although DR was influenced heavily by this guy).
It's a really special beautiful fantastic film that anyone who loves music or film should see.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
The music was really good. I found myself singing a couple of the songs in my head days later.
It's a different type of musical than the usual break-out-into-song-in-the-middle-of-a-conversation musical. The story is about the music (two musicians) who only sing when they are composing or performing, so the transitions to/from song are natural. It's a musical for those who hate musicals.
The "love story" was subdued (realistic) and the acting was outstanding. It's really hard to convey the kind of emotional depth and connection these two had, considering they hardly (if at all) addressed it verbally.

Aye the commentary is a sort of light hearted take on some of the more critical theories behind why certain decisions were made with the filming/script etc and how they relate to the director/writers intentions.
Also just cool if you're into film and like seeing how plans of a film translate into a finished piece.
So glad you liked the film Everytime I meet someone who loved Once I just feel warm and fuzzy
Did you know they are no longer together? I know they got together right after filming, but Hansard said recently they were no longer a couple.
/tmz off
Yeah. Embarrasingly, as a bit of a Hansard fanboy I was aware of that. To an extent I think that whole "fling" was a bit of publicity. They have known each other for about 20 years before they ever "went out".
Ahh, I didn't know that. I knew there was a big age difference, so I just assumed that had something to do with it. Won't keep me from listening to the Frames!
hahah, that's great. For those that don't know, Irglova and Hansard are in a band called The Swell Season, still making music despite their non-dating status. I was glad to hear they're still working together.
