Blue Dragon

Post by Funkmasterr »

Ani- I think it was you I saw playing this last night.. or at any rate it was someone from VV and I was tired so I don't remember who!

I am teetering on the edge of picking this up this weekend or waiting a month or two and I need to hear some feedback about it (I know winnow already talked about it, just looking for a few more opinions.)

thanks!

I played the demo and I think it sucks big blue dragon balls, but I've never enjoyed this type of game, so... /pharm.

Haven't bought this yet. It, along with the chatpad are earmarked as birthday presents(next weekend) so no buy for me for now.

I'm seriously looking forward to playing it however.

Bioshock and Shadowrun will have to tide me over till then.

Rented and played for 30 minutes before I left town for a business trip this next week. I liked what I saw, but it wasn't much.

I'll post the link to the other Blue Dragon thread again for my comments about the game so I won't go into that: http://www.veeshanvault.org/forums/view ... 47&t=21063

I took a break at the point where I have to deal with the 4th member added to the party. I'm fine with the cartooney characters but the 4th member added to the party is highly annoying. They decided it would be cute to make a character that SCREAMS every fucking line of dialog, in a tantrum, as part of his character's personality.

I'm sure it will improve again after I get through the part of the story that deals with this character! I don't like their default shadow ability either but with this game you can switch shadow abilities for characters and level them up to your liking. I just hope that at some point in the game, a particular ability is needed that I don't have leveled up and that it's more like Marvel Ultimate Alliance where several character's abilities can get the job done so you're not screwed if you didn't like a particular character (or shadow ability in the case of Blue Dragon)

The unfortunate phrase "baby-game" has crept into a few too many discussions on the review podcasts I tend to trust. Sounds like this one's a renter, even for RPG nerds like me.

Closing in on 18 hours, still on Disk 1, still loving the game a lot.

This game plays a lot like the old FF games that I loved (1,4,6,7,9). You can definately see Sakaguchi's direction behind the pacing of the game, in the way the story evolves and the way the characters evolve as well.

I haven't run into any parts of the game that have felt too long or overly tedious as were very common in Final Fantasy XII. (Seriously, every sidequest in that one felt like a trek to Mt. Doom. I loved the story, just not having to walk 10k miles to make it progress).

Sure it's a lot more lighthearted story that the usual Final Fantasy fare however that doesn't make it any less fun. At least the characters in BD have an actual role in the story, as opposed to Vaan and Penelo who by all accounts were just hangers on.

This is the most fun I've had playing a JRPG since Final Fantasy IX.

I hated the demo but picked up the full version for the missus to play. Her and the youngin seemed to be enjoying it so I've started as well as it will kill time until Halo3.

I'm enjoying it.
The achievements are demented for the most part.
The boss fight music is a classic.
<3 Zola. So feisty.
I've just hit disc 2 after 23 hours.

Agreed on the Boss music. So great when it kicks up.

27 hours in now. On disk 2 in an snow area. Won't post much more than that as I don't want to spoilerize this thread.
I am starting to get sick of searching every single nook and cranny for money or attribute increases or items I don't really use. I may stop doing that.

My only real other gripe is the ease of boss fights. The game isn't really challenging per say. I'm not asking for 1 hit kills like on FF3/DS(damn that was frustrating) but a happy medium between the two would've been nice.

The only challenge I got up till now is trying to get the achievements playing those minigames. I got the Wagon one and the Mechat Shooting Gallery 1 but it took me about 7-8 times of reloading and retrying to get them. Haven't encountered any of the others.

Yeah it's pretty easy. I had a couple of KOs in a boss fight and was shocked as they are so rare. Still never mind.

Obsessively farming areas for loot also grinds me down on occasion but htey always HOOKERWHORESLUT some phatness in with the dross so my OCD won't let me pass up the searches even when places like Talta took me over an hour. . .

If I make it to the end before Halo 3 that will make this the first JRPG I've finished since FF7.

 I hadn't realized how long it had been since this game was released. Finally picked it up today at Gamestop used for 14.99, looking forward to playing it sometime in the next 2 years when I get caught up on the rest of my games

Thanks!

I think I remember seeing some expansion content for this. Did you play through it, and if so was it worth the money?

I played through it once and enjoyed it. I just didn't enjoy it enough to want to get the DLC or bother to try to get max level with all classes.
