I am actually kinda happy it is being done. While Soe does suck, they can do a better job on mxo than what the original team was doing. The Matrix Online Joins the Sony Online Entertainment Platform – Effective August 15, 2005- 8/12/2005
The Matrix Online (MxO) will officially transition to Sony Online Entertainment (SOE), effective August 15, 2005. Beginning on the 15th, existing MxO subscribers, upon log-in, will be offered a direct link to the SOE Station account registration site to activate a Station account in order to continue their MxO service. In order to continue to play MxO as of this date, you will need to register with SOE by creating a Station account, submitting billing and other subscriber information, and agreeing to SOE's End User License Agreement, Terms of Service, and other rules and policies. You will only need to complete this full process of re-registration once.
Also, beginning August 15th, MxO players who have an existing Station account or Station Access™ subscription can select their billing preference and then add The Matrix Online service to their existing account (game software is sold separately). Otherwise, MxO players will need to create a new Station account in order to continue their MxO subscription service. Any existing pre-paid MxO service time on a player's MxO account at the time of the August 15th transition will automatically be added to the new Station MxO account.

Mxo joins SOE

What gets the axe next from SOE? Vanguard? EQ?
After nearly four years in operation, the machines now greatly outnumber the players and The Matrix Online is no longer necessary.
July 31st is the day the machines finally triumph. Sony Online Entertainment has held on to The Matrix Online for far longer than we ever expected they would, but as producer Dan Myers puts it, all good things must end.
I remember being extremely excited when The Matrix Online was first announced, looking forward to something completely different for the massively multiplayer RPG genre, and while the game did deliver, perhaps it was just a bit too different for most people's tastes. Now we've seen how far the rabbit hole goes and it's time to wake up from that dream (or go back to sleep, depending how you look at it). On July 31, 2009, we will be jacking out for the last time. It's a bittersweet moment for everyone involved with the game; as a player or as a developer.
Don't expect The Matrix Online to go quietly, however. As is tradition with dying MMO games, Dan hints at big plans for the final days of MxO.

Re: Mxo joins SOE
Think they would do more server mergers on EQ before that gets the boot. Still has a good population of players throughout. I know nothing of Vanguard so no input on that. I see EQ being around for a while.Aslanna wrote:http://kotaku.com/5272601/soe-pulls-the ... rix-online

EQ is going to outlive Vanguard.

Re: Mxo joins SOE
I can't imagine EQ going away any earlier than 5 years. As has been said, there's still a decent population. They'd probably attract more players or retain more players if they lowered the price. With games like Runes of Magic and Warrior Epic that are fully graphical MMOs and free it's hard to justify paying $15 a month in an economy like we're in. I'd consider coming back for $9.99.. maybe. I dunno, RoM is pretty good and I can log on for 15 minutes and get a bunch done. Still not much you can do in EQ in 15 minutes.
Re: Mxo joins SOE
Yeah but those free games pretty much rely on micro transactions to keep going. Something that when SOE started implementing in EQ with the Marketplace and Station Cash, and even LoN to a certain extent, people threw a fit. I think it's a bit lame but if it allows them to pay the bills and keep things running longer I'm all for it. The ingame spam however does get a bit annoying but I haven't really noticed much of that lately.Siji wrote:I can't imagine EQ going away any earlier than 5 years.
