Re: Bioshock
No there were a couple of other threads about it. I would say a good 8 or 10 VV people have played it and commented on it, I thought it was a great game, and I have been meaning to go back through it on hard to clean up the achievements I didn't get the first time through

Re: Bioshock
Thought it was a fantastic piece of work, but stopped playing it somewhere in the middle... I still have the disc from gamefly but I'm going to send it back and get the orange box.

Re: Bioshock
As commented in one of the other threads I tried playing it. But it keeps crashing at random times. Usually when I pick something up. I tried just about all the solutions found in a 10 page thread on the 2k boards but nothing helped.

Re: Bioshock
We need a merge!
It's a shame there's problems with Bioshock on the PC.
It's a kick ass game and the full immersion shouldn't be interrupted with crashes!
I haven't tried it on the PC. One thing that bums me out are all the 8800 problems. I always look to upgrade to the latest but whenever I eye a 8800 card, I see 8800 issues in a wide range of apps. This normally is expected but the 8800 has been out a loooooong time, in relation to other tech that's considered "new". It's not a question of going with ATi either as they suck even worse, especially with non Window OS's like OSX and Linux.
The latest nvidia drivers for linux seem to work great though compared to the ones I tried several months ago. (for the 7800GT at least)

Re: Bioshock
Bioshock was a fantastic game. I have to play through it again on hard and polish off the achievements. The only one I'm missing are the Historian (missed 1 of the damned tape players in an area of the game where I can't return later) and the "Seriously Good at This" achievement where I have to finish it on hard.

No problems for me on my PC!It's a shame there's problems with Bioshock on the PC.
Unless you consider looking and performing a fuck-ton better a problem.
Bioshock looks amazing on my ATI card and I get great performance playing it on Vista.
Last time I checked, Bioshock isn't even fucking available on OSX and Linux so why the fuck are you even mentioning it?as they suck even worse, especially with non Window OS's like OSX and Linux
Hey shithead, this is a Bioshock thread in the consoles forum... who gives a fuck about your nvidia linux problems? The latest nvidia drivers for linux seem to work great though compared to the ones I tried several months ago. (for the 7800GT at least)

Re: Bioshock
This is a prime example of you faggoting up threads with completely unrelated and irrelevant shit.

Re: Bioshock
It's not irrelevant. Bioshock on the PC has issues. The driver issues with the 8800 are part of the problem. Your Ati fanboism is getting into your head.

Re: Bioshock
It may have been extra info and irrelevant to bioshock, but it wasn't excessive and doesn't rise to the level of 'faggoting up the thread'. You've managed to faggot it up with winnow-hate though. Eat a snickers, miir.

Re: Bioshock
I'm not even saying my issues are related to the 8800.. But checking this thread reveals a lot of people are having issues. Although thanks to the power of 'evaluation' I discovered those issues before shelling out anything. If I had paid $50 or whatever it was I'd be quite disgruntled as it's basically unplayable. I might try it under Vista someday if I get around to it but I'm fairly certain I'd encounter the same issues.

Offtopic: I have a PC. I have an 8800. I beat the game. I saved the girls. I uninstalled. I didn't have crashes. I was lucky!
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Really? My 8800 ran me start to finish without a single problem. In higher resolution than a 360 can manage, not that I'm insinuating anythingWinnow wrote:It's not irrelevant. Bioshock on the PC has issues. The driver issues with the 8800 are part of the problem.

What kind of video card did you have when you were playing Bioshock on your PC, Winnow?

I played Bioshock on the 360 and thought it looked great. I'm sure it looks even better on the PC.Niffoni wrote: What kind of video card did you have when you were playing Bioshock on your PC, Winnow?
I lean toward playing the 360 version of games these days except for turn based strategy games.
Re: Bioshock
Tried it under Vista. Pretty much had the same problems - crashing when picking up stuff. Uninstall time!

Re: Bioshock
I'm playing it on my PC. It's working great. I have a 7800 series one, no problems. XP. F Vista.
If I had a 360, I'd probably play it on that. It would have lesser graphics and performance, but ACHIEVEMENTS!

Re: Bioshock
I tried it under both. Definitely noticed the dx10 'improvements' though the last time. Mostly subtle things but they added to the atmosphere of the game. Unfortunately I can't make it past the medical facility level as that's where it seems crash happy.

I dunno, I'm sure there's a fountain of info as to why some folks had issues out there. I am not it

Re: Bioshock
I have chosen this Bioshock topic to post my impressions on.
This is a great game. Although, all the people/critics clamoring that it's about time people did a FPS like this must never have played Half Life. Half Life 1 broke the mold on this type of game design. I feel like Bioshock is the first FPS to step up to the standard that was set all the way back in '98.
So far I'm about an hour into it and it is exceptional (just like Half Life was). I have the same feeling of immersion that I haven't felt in an a very long time. Graphics, sound, and control mesh into one experiance whle playing. My wife is actually further into this game than I am, marking Bioshock the first console game to truly hook her since Katamari Damacy (PS2).

Re: Bioshock
I just beat this yesterday!
By the end, I was feeling a bit let down by lack of variety in enemies and and the complete absence of any large, boss type encounters. Also, as fantastic as the environment is, it started to all look the same. The forest level and a couple of battles in ice covered areas were a welcome break.
The variety of plasmids an weapons was fun, but I used the shotgun almost exclusively. Some of the plasmids were either weak or redundant because I had weapons that did the same thing (fire/ice and chemical thrower).
Overall, it wasn't that long either (6-7 hours?). I think it was just about right though.
I would give Bioshock an 8/10. I hope the sequel is more diverse. I was hoping to interact with the aquatic environment a bit and maybe fight a shark, giant squid, or some other sort of monster. 6 billion feet under the sea and water itself was a non-issue? Please correct this!
EDIT: Dead Space was better.

I don't agree with you overall, but judging from what I've read about Bioshock 2 I think you'll end up being happier with it than the first game.Fairweather Pure wrote:I just beat this yesterday!

How was the water itself a non-issue? It was very clear that a large part of the reason of the decline of the city was the water retaking it, things caved in, shit was leaking everywhere, etc.
I'm not meaning this as a slam on you by any means, but in my opinion you seem to have pretty unrealistic expectations of games in general. Every game that comes out can't be a genre defining, instant classic

Re: Bioshock
My guy was only in water during the intro and momments into the first level! The rest of the game, I was looking out of windows and tubes at water and some sea life, but I never interacted with it the rest of the game. It was a great environmental effect, but drowning was never a threat and I never swam again in the entire game. I was just kind of expecting a little more interaction is all!

Re: Bioshock
You should read up on the second game, it's looking pretty sweet.
The single player seems like it will be a lot more fleshed out and a lot of the shortcomings should be dealt with.
The even cooler part is that the multiplayer is being developed by a different developer than the single player. It's being handled by the people that did the first couple Unreal Tournament games, and they have some pretty ambitious ideas for it. As opposed to it's single player counter part- the multiplayer will be set before the events of the first game, and before things started to go downhill in rapture.
I'm pretty excited for the second game!
