Wanted

Post by Fairweather Pure »

Bullet time, struggling origin stories, betrayal, and ridiculous action sequences pack this movie to the fucking gills. It's all been done before in every movie from The Matrix to Spiderman.

I shouldn't like this movie at all, but I do.

The movie is about an ancient society if assassins that recruit a cubicle dwelling loser into thier ranks because he is actually the son of the greatest assassin in the history of forever. They train him and set him loose. Good times and lots of headshots ensue.

Wanted is basically Shoot Em Up without any sense of humor what so ever. All the over the top action that was so tongue in cheek in Shoot Em Up is replaced in Wanted with deadly seriousness and lots and lots of blood. Many of the action sequences were so crazy, I couldn't hardly believe what I was watching. Let me clarify that. I cannot believe that anyone would expect this to be taken seriously in any way, shape, or form.

Don't let the comments above fool you. I fucking loved this movie. It was balls to the walls action from beginning to end. It had decent twists and the action ranged from "cool" to "there is just no way in hell that is even remotely possible". I went into Wanted basically expecting a shitty movie. When it was over, I could hardly believe how much I enjoyed myself, even despite all the flaws I can sit down and write about in hindsight.

As far as pure balls to the walls action movies, I'm hard pressed to find a better recommendation from 2008.

Do yourself another favor, do NOT read the comic before you see the movie. I havent seen the movie yet, and i wanna see it eventually, but i read the comic, and the comic is great, but it has just about as much to do with the movie as Constantine had with Hellblazer.

I agree, I shouldn't like the movie, I hated the previews, but I somehow found myself liking it. Maybe it was the fact that I'd set my expectations SO low that it was entertaining, I don't know.

I disagree with Fairweather though, I was laughing a lot at this movie, similar to how I was at Shoot'em Up. I thought the Main character's thoughts/lines were hilarious. This is no great mind expanding flick and it doesn't try to be, putting this on Netflix was worth it for me.

oddly enough, i saw Wanted just yesterday. i agree with psyloche- they did ATTEMPT to make it a bit tongue-in-cheek.. but unlike him the humor didn't really work for me. the "office space meets matrix" angle was definitely hard for me to swallow. the action scenes were just laughably over the top, which is alright- but you just have to laugh. i think two parts in particular that killed me were the multi-stage bullet and the whole sunroof thing.

I saw it yesterday too, and its a pretty good action movie actually. VERY unrealistic of course, and with big empathis on VERY, but its good mindless entertanment.
Only time i got pissed at it was actually not any of the huge "hey, we can bend the laws of physics like this" moments with curving bullets and so on, but near the where:
[Show]
Wesley manage to catch that knife guys knife/stick/whatever it was, in the barrel of his pistol, break the knife, then fire the pistol and somehow fire the end of the knife into the guys stomack. I could ignore all the other stuff as "part of the universe", but that one pissed me off for some reason :)

This was a useless movie. The guy, Scottish guy, whatever he is called, only proves once again how over rated he actually is.

I found this to be one of the most boring and stupid films I've seen in ages.
