RE 360 elite
I just picked one of these up along with a 48 inch HD tv for the bedroom. It was only a tad more expensive than getting RE5 and an upconverting DVD player. Does anyone else have more than 1 xbox? If so, can you transfer saved game data from one 360 to the other? I can transfer my account easy enough (although it takes far too long IMO).
The red 360 is pretty cool looking and goes very well in my bedroom!

Re: RE 360 elite
You can copy them but you'll need the memory card thingie. Just find the current save game then hit Y (I think) and there should be an option for Copy. Just choose the memory card as the destination and can bring it over to the new xbox. I believe the achievements wont copy over though but if they're using the same Live account I think it's fine.
Having said all that I've never done it myself! But I've seen the options there.

Re: RE 360 elite
Ok, as an update, this is just a huge pain in the ass. I have 4 different 8G flash drives and none of them are "compatible" with the 360 as storage devices and neither are either of my external drives. Saving acheivements is good enough for me I guess, but it does take a good 10 minutes to transfer a profile from one system to another.
I'm pretty dissappointed. It shouldn't be this hard. Both systems are on the same wireless network. I should just be able to select either drive oer the network. Oh well. I don't plan on doing any major gaming in the bedroom anyway
i can use it primarily for online play and games with quick matches and skirmishes.

Re: RE 360 elite
Sadly, you can't copy save-game data from one 360 to another through a USB drive. The only thing that will work is with one of those official Memory Units.
I had bought a 64MB memory unit a while ago and use it as my keychain. My gamer profile is on that thing at all times so if I need to sign in to another xbox, I don't need to bother with the recovery.

Re: RE 360 elite
You can get a Hard Drive transfer cable for free (I think) through This Site. I used it, and it transferred everything to my new hard drive with no issues.

Re: RE 360 elite
Just to clarify, yes you can. It just has to be compatible with the Xbox 360. Some flash card advertise this and you can find lists of compatible flash and external HDs. I just don't happen to own any of them!Animalor wrote:Sadly, you can't copy save-game data from one 360 to another through a USB drive. If you could link a source for that info, I would love to see it. I refuse to pay 40$ for a gamer card to use in my own house as a work around to Microsoft's bullshit.Kilmoll the Sexy wrote:I believe you can also copy it via your network from one xbox to another.

Re: RE 360 elite
Am I missing something? You have two 360's, both with hard drives and you want to move the stuff from one HD to the other right? Just get the official, free cable I linked from MS above if this is the case. If not then sorry for the misunderstanding.Fairweather Pure wrote:If you could link a source for that info, I would love to see it. Re: RE 360 elite
Depends.. Could be limited based on what he already has and what he's tryign to do. Here are a few points:Funkmasterr wrote:Am I missing something? Perhaps his original drive isn't 20gb?This kit lets you transfer content from your Xbox 360® 20GB hard drive to another Xbox 360 20GB or Xbox 360 120GB hard drive.
However, content can only ever be moved from the smaller drive only once. The transfer kit cannot move content from the larger 120GB drive.
Perhaps he wants it on both systems for whatever reason? So therefore wants a copy and not a move. No clue why it erases stuff though. Sounds a bit lame.If you have already saved games or stored content on your Xbox 360 Elite system's 120GB hard drive or the Xbox 360 Special Edition 20GB hard drive, those games and that content will be erased during the content transfer. (All preloaded content will remain when the transfer is complete.) Xbox LIVE® Arcade games and other content purchased on Xbox LIVE can be re-downloaded.
Again.. Sounded like he wanted to copy and not to move. The contents of your original hard drive will be erased. If you continue to use your original hard drive after the transfer, you'll simply end up with separate game saves or other content on each drive.
Apart from this one-time option to move all content to your new drive, you cannot copy or move files from one hard drive to another, regardless of drive capacity.
One word for that: Lame!
Back to where we started! If you have already used your new hard drive and have existing game save(s) or Xbox LIVE membership(s) on your new hard drive you can avoid erasing existing games save(s) or your Xbox LIVE membership(s) on your new hard drive by moving them to an Xbox 360 Memory Unit (sold separately) for temporary storage before you begin the transfer. Once the hard-drive-to-hard-drive transfer is complete, you can then safely add your game save(s) or membership(s) back to your new hard drive.

Re: RE 360 elite
MS really makes you jump through hoops to do the simplest shit with the 360.
I'd love to see a console with the game selection and online play (like Live except free) of the Xbox and the hardware features and flexibility of the PS3.

Re: RE 360 elite
I agree. I was trying to transfer a save/achievements from one profile to another. I found out you could copy the save but you'd lose all the achievements. I can see why that would be the case so that people don't use other people's saves but come on.. It should be able to copy between profiles on the same machine and retain all that! Well.. Obviously it doesn't. But it should. I'm sure they could find a way to tie it back to specific consoles or whatever.

Re: RE 360 elite
Good points, Aslanna. Hadn't thought of some of those possibilities.
As far as transferring game saves, that does suck but just like you said, there are reasons for it. There are a handful of games on the PS3 (a lot of the more popular titles) that have the game saves locked as well, so you can't back them up/copy them or anything.

Re: RE 360 elite
Fair - Do you simply want to transfer the stuff from your 20GB hdd to the 120GB one?
If so then I can mail you my transfer cable and disk. I'm pretty sure I have all of those at home still and they're useless for me now.
Just an FYI through, the transfer process will remove everything off the 120GB drive out and replace it with the stuff on the 20GB.
Lemme know

Re: RE 360 elite
I have my original elite in the living room and the new one in the bedroom. I want to copy the saved games from the living room to the bedroom, so I can continue games there if I want, make progress and copy it back to the living room when I want to play out there. Without the saved game locations, I will be starting from scratch on any of my older games I play in the bedroom.
Last night I wanted to start RE5 in the bedroom, but skipped it because I'll be playing it all week in the living room.
I don't want to play all my games twice

Re: RE 360 elite
Well the only real solutions it seems is like using only one of the HDD's and moving it around wherever you're playing.
What will the other 360 be doing while you're playing in either the living room or the bed room?

Re: RE 360 elite
The one in the bedroom may be used for movies if I am gaming in the living room. If I am playing in the bedroom, the 360 in the living room will sit there looking pretty.

Re: RE 360 elite
Not all content will be available on if you switch the hard drive from console to console if I remember right.. Like Rock Band tracks, for example. They may have fixed this along the way cause it's been a long time since I had the issue, but it's something to look into/think about.

Re: RE 360 elite
The HDD on the 360 is designed to be easily removable. Just turn off the console, push the tab in and lift the drive out.
The problem Funk is referring to is the content license. When you buy from the marketplace, you get a 2-factor license for that content. One that is tied to the console and the other that is tied to the gamertag. If you bought Peggle for example, everyone could play the game on the physical console you bought the game on.
If you move the HDD to the bedroom machine, then you could only play Peggle on the gamertag that bought the game, the other people in the house would only get the trial again because the serial number on the console didn't match the purchasing console MS has on record.
Microsoft has a website where you can transfer all your licenses from one console to another if you chose to do so. Once this is done however you have to re-download each license file from the marketplace to make the change live.
You can also only do this once a year.

Re: RE 360 elite
when i got my new xbox (rrod) i kept my old HD and just threw it in the new one that they sent and it worked fine. the only annoying thing now is that it doesn't automatically log into xbox live when i turn it on. haven't had any license issues or anything.

When I swapped the HD, I still had to recover my Windows Live Tag
It seems there is no way to get around that going from system to system unless I just get one of thier fucking memory cards.

Re: RE 360 elite
Wait what??
That's wierd? Check your memory on the system settings. Is the Gamer Profile listed as being on the HDD? There's no way you should need to recover the profile because the profile isn't tied to the hardware. It's simply a file on the HDD and should be usable.
Now if you had recovered the profile on the other HDD you have the other day, then yes the profile on the HDD you are switching how would have been invalidated, hence the 2nd recovery.
You shouldn't need to recover every time though. I keep my profile on a memory unit and haven't needed to recover and it's been used in a few xboxes.
