Your personal top movies picks of 2008

Post by Fairweather Pure »

You can have 2 for each category!

Action - Dark Knight / Iron Man
Drama - The Wrestler / Slumdog Millionaire
Animation - Wall*E / Kung Fu Panda
Comedy - Forgetting Sarah Marshall / Pineapple Express
Documentary - Man On A Wire / Religulous
Foreign - Once (this is the only foregin film that I have seen that I can think of off hand)

I thought it was a really good year for movies. The Golden Globes had some nice surprises and made me think to get some lists going!

Only difference I have from your list is in Comedy, though I enjoyed both of your picks.

Comedy: In Bruges / Happy Go Lucky

Tropic Thunder was pretty damned entertaining as well, but the last third was a bit much.

I'd also add a category to this list.."Foreign"

Foreign: Let the Right One In

And con-fucking-gratulations to Mickey Rourke. What a great comeback. Nearly brought tears to my eyes seeing his win.

2008 was a fantastic year for movies.
I saw so many good films it would be too hard to pick a favorite.. or favorites!

Don't see too many movies these days but I did pick up Iron Man and that definitely was a great movie. Saw Kung Fu Panda on demand and I couldn't imagine Wall-e being better. Just an insane looking movie w/ good voice talent. FOrgetting Sarah Marshall definitely made me laugh but I havn't seen the Kevin Smith movie yet and I thought Tropic Thunder was better.

I saw both Iron Man and Dark Knight and enjoyed both. That's my two movies for the year. I'm hoping to see at least two in 2009 as well!

I don't want to put them into categories because for the most part, I don't like Action and I can't narrow it down to 2 comedies, but some of last years standouts for me were:

Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The Changeling
Kung Fu Panda
PS I Love You
In Bruges
Tropa de Elite
Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day
Man on a Wire
Frost/Nixon
Milk
Tropic Thunder
Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Run Fatboy Run

Major disappointments: Sex in the City
Movie everyone else in the world seems to like but I didn't: Once

I haven't seen enough movies of 2008, yet. I'm usually the last person to see most movies.

Scrolled through the movies on VV for the last year. Nothing stood out except Slumdog Millionaire.

Of note in 2008:

RIP Michael Crichton. Thanks for some great novels made into great (and some not so great) movies. Jurassic Park/Andromeda Strain I even enjoyed Rising Sun! Bad moveis would be Congo/Sphere/that time travel one (my thread was closed instead of merged)
