I re-installed WoW! After buying a house that pretty much decimated my socializing budget, I've decided I need to get back to something inexpensive that will keep me home. I haven't played in 3 years, before any expansions, so last night when I logged on for the first time I had no idea what I was doing. Plus, so much has changed.

That said, anyone have any suggestions on directions I should go with a 60 shaman? I think I was restoration spec'ed back in the day, but one of the things that made me hate the game was basically being a raid healer again, after Sylvus being a raid healer in EQ. Are there other viable builds that make a shaman worthwhile in the high-end? Equipment I should be looking for? Sites to read?

If I were a shaman, I would probably go elemental since healing sucks in every mmorpg

All of the specs are pretty useful now. Generally Elemental shaman are in more demand as there seems to be a higher tendancy for shaman who want to dps to play enhancement (this can be attributed to elemental being really fucking bad atm, but next patch it's getting something like a 15-20% dps boost).

It more so comes down to whether you'd rather play a melee or caster based role.

Deathknight is also an option, but they're a dime a dozen, so you've got to be ready to not really be able to find groups and shit if you go that route unless you plan on tanking and not sucking at it . That being said, it's a hella fun class. One of the more challenging classes to play at that. But again, if you intend to play dps, be ready to fight with about a thousand other dps DKs for spots in pugs and whatnot. That could be true of any dps class though I suppose, but people tend to not want to bring 3 or 4 of a single class to a 10 or 5 man.

If you're wanting just basic information about specs and builds, I'm not really sure where you'd go. Maybe http://www.wowwiki.com. For detailed, ridiculously in-depth theorycrafting, Elitist Jerks is the place to go, but that's probably going to be something you don't really want to delve into at level 60 .

If you have any questions though, post them. I can make you some specs if you decide which spec you'd rather play. Again it's more about whether you want to play a caster or melee based role, and just keep in mind it's infinitely easier to level as a melee.

Outlands is insanely fast atm, but be prepared to just quest for the most part, as no one is going to be running instances there. Once you hit 68 and can go to northrend, you should be able to do instances, but generally questing is still a lot faster.

All the shamenz in my guild say elemental spec is the bomb, right before I make them respec to heal my shadowpriest.
