Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I saw this over the course of my vacation last week. I had only just seen the first movie a few nights before. I enjoyed the movie and thought that it was pretty fun. I had a problem trying to not relate it to shows like Buffy and Angel but as I enjoyed those shows a lot it wasn't that big of a problem. I'd go see a third movie if they make it.

I saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. I thought there was going to be one moment that I had to just roll my eyes and look away, but it played out wonderfully!

I am talking about the lead-in to the love song part of the movie and the drunken fun that ended up taking place. I didn't see that coming when they started to talk in the library.

This movie is back in theaters this week now that the Dark Knight opening demand is over. I'm going to make an effort to see it this weekend.

I never did get to see this in theaters, but I finally watched the DVD last night. I thought it was pretty good, but for some reason I found it lacking. I cannot put my finger on why, but I thought the ending was a tad lackluster. I also didn't like how they downplayed several of the major characters from the first movie.

The special effects were great, and there was some great scenery in this movie. The action set pieces were also fantastic. I guess I was expecting it to be notabley better than the first Hellboy. I would rank it just as good, but certianly not heads and shoulders superior.

The weapon that the bad guy had sure was awesome though!

I watched it on DVD this past week. I thought it was about on par with the first movie. It had more of a comedic tone than the first one did. I wish they would have toned that down just a little bit. It looked great though for a movie that was made for so little ($85 Million, most movies of that type on that scale are over $150 Million).

My only real issue was they should have gone for a more 'epic' ending.

There wasn't a lot to the end. They fight the robots for about 60 seconds, then Hellboy fights the Prince for like 90 seconds and it's over. I mean the Prince's goal is use the Golden Army to destroy humanity and reclaim the planet....can't you come up with something more than a small 5-minute scene to end it? You would think maybe another Elf or two decided "hey, this is kind of a shitty situation....lets go help the Prince out". There was never any sense of danger on the epic scale of the first movie.
