Go Vote
Today's the day, finally.
Whoever you're going to support, make sure to go cast your vote if you haven't done so already. The lines are going to suck, but it's important. Don't assume your candidate is going to win, go help make sure they do.
Interesting note: Heard on the radio today that early votes this year surpassed the total number of votes placed in the 2004 election on election day.

Re: Go Vote
I voted before work this morning at our local elementary school (Columbus, Ohio). Lines were about an hour, but when I left they had died down considerably.
Got to work on time, woot!

Re: Go Vote
Got there about 45 minutes before they opened and was 7th in line. Got out in 15 minutes. A lot of time saved by having the sample ballot pre-completed though. When I left it looked like the line would be an hour or so long at least assuming 15 minutes per person. Probably a lot of people trying to get in before work.
In other news, some people shouldn't be in public at 7:00 am. Yikes.

Re: Go Vote
Only about 30 people in line at my polling place. I was done in about 10 minutes tops. Of course my town only has about 20k people in it.

Re: Go Vote
Voted last week and after seeing the lines in Austin for early voting, I think I did it right. I found a location which was closer to Williamson County than Travis, which split the people into the two counties. Because it was closer to Williamson (probably in it actually), the Austin (Travis) lines were virtually empty.
Also, I am not sure about the states that y'all live in, but in Texas:
Also, I am not sure about the states that y'all live in, but in Texas:
Background:
Texas election code states:
The employee is allowed reasonable time off to vote if the polls aren’t open two consecutive hours outside the employee’s regular shift. This time off is paid.(Texas Election Code Ann. Section 276.004)
Source: http://employmentlawpost.com/theword/20 ... -survey-2/
Note: this statute applies to the actual Election Day which is November 4. The fact that Texas has an early voting option does NOT negate people's right to exercise the voting day "'two (2) consecutive hours off or paid time off" provision.

I voted this morning. I believe Obama will win, and one thing I'm looking forward to is cheerier news coverage. Do you think the tone of news coverage in general will improve with Obama in the White House?

Re: Go Vote
Nneena and I just voted. We went at a good time, and waited in line literally less than a minute. We drove by our polling place about an hour earlier and it was pretty crowded, so we went out for breakfast and waited for the rush of people voting before work to die down. Last election, we both had to wait about 2 hours at the polling location for our old house.

Re: Go Vote
Went to the polling joint at 7am...the line was 400 people deep...then the nice attendant passing out directions on how to fill out the paper ballot explained I was in the line for the "L thru Z" lastnames...so I went to the proper line of A through K and there was ZERO people in it. Boy they messed up my voting district I guess on last name splits, or I'm playing the lottery tonight on the way home.
Took me 5 minutes, while surely it was over an hour for the L thru Z folks.

I just came back from voting. There may have been 10 people in front of me. Apparently I did right by waiting since over 4 million people in FL voted early.

Re: Go Vote
No, unfortunately I don't. So much misinformation and fear has been spread around trying to sway voters, that it's going to linger for quite awhile should he win.Fenna wrote:I voted this morning. Re: Go Vote
Voted this morning about an hour after the polls opened and there was only about 6 people ahead of me. Took all of 5 minutes to get in and out. While I was standing in line 2 young guys behind me were registering to vote for the very first time, it was good to see younger people taking an interest in the process. Now lets hope they had done the right thing and got them selfs informed before they voted.

Re: Go Vote
I'll be voting after my second and final class of the day. I'll get to the voting place (a high school) at around 4 PM EST.

Re: Go Vote
I was able to walk in and vote. There was no line to fill out my ballot. However, I waited in line 45 minutes to have my ballot scanned. I was planning on being there 3-4 hours, so overall I was happy.

Re: Go Vote
I walked in, no wait to sign my "application to vote" and get my ballot, no wait to fill out my ballot, no wait to scan my ballot.
The whole process took me about 7 minutes, with most of that time trying to figure out how to vote for regents and trustees of local universities. I'm still not sure how to figure that out, but whatever!

Just wanted to add, that due to being Irish and having vote-induced impotence, I and a lot of other people appreciate more deeply than you could imagine a vote for Obama.

Went at 12:30. No wait.

Re: Go Vote
No lines where I went. But the lighting absolutely sucked. And it was electronic so I had to fill in bubbles. Which is hard in half-darkness. When I scanned it in it spit it out the first time so they said turn it over and try again and it worked. Not sure I really like that system. How do I know all my bubbles were acccurate since I went outside the lines on some!
And to top it off I stopped at the store on my way home. Needed some wine.. omg can't buy alochol in Indiana during election hours what the heck!
Now I can't stop hitting F5 on the CNN site. Looks like Kentucky going to McCain. Indiana pretty close so far. It was Obama by 2% now McCain is ahead. Where be the landslide!

I think PA is a bit too early to tell. If you live in the West make sure you get out and vote Obama because there's way too many people voting for McCain.
