Brokeback Mountain

Post by Xyphir »

First of all, the cinimatography was spectacular. I was reminded of the natural beauty from such films as "A River Runs Through It". The acting was good, but I'm not sure if it's as Oscar worthy as the media is touting, but that's Hollywood for you. Although the story bogs down in places, it's a heartwrenching tale of 'forbidden' love and internal conflict that tends to fast-forward and come to a screetching halt at times. Ang Lee did a wonderful job, getting the most from the actors in the movie, but at times it was very hard to understand what they were saying.

The passionate scene in the beginning was a bit uncomfortable, but I'm sure it was how it was meant to be portraid. I was a bit diappointed that Ennis didn't take Jack's ashes to Brokeback to scatter them there, as was his dying wish. I'm sure his wife knew more than she let on about his relationship with Ennis, and I was surprised she didn't tell him the truth about how he died.

i still have quests to do on Brokeback Mountain, but all the mobs backstab.

Seriously, i hear it's great, so I think i'll give it a rent.

I saw this movie while back east fighting jet lag, trying to get to sleep.

It was on a channel with commercials so I may have not seen some of the more "uncomfortable" scenes if there was more than the two sheep herders kissing.

I thought the movie was very well acted. It was a little on the slow side but the movie has to do with cowboys, and partially Texas, so you can't expect much on the witty side of things.

I'd recommend extreme homophobes rent it and watch it alone in case you turn out to be closet homosexuals. I'm sure their biggest fear was walking out of the theater with a raging hard-on.

Heath Ledger did well in the movie although it's hard to judge his performance as he talks without moving his jaw to recreate the cowboy drawl. Shame he's gone. As for Jake Gyllenhaal, he's proven his acting abilities in movies like October Sky and Donnie Darko.

In summary, if you like backwoods cowboy, slower type movies, you'll enjoy this move. Pretend the main characters in "No Country for Old Men" were gay and everything remaining will be the same.

I guess you missed the part about it being in/about Wyoming.

Nope, Jack lives in Texas! The majority takes place in Wyoming but parts are in Texas.

Wyoming > Texas

Brokeback Mountain was in Wyoming, thus the movie was more about Wyoming than Texas. Maybe they cut that part out in the commercials because it was more offensive ;)

It wasn't an erotic film so there wasn't really any "uncomfortable scenes" to cut. As I recall, there were only a couple of brief, albeit intense, male sex scenes. Both left everything beyond kissing to the imagination. There was nothing boner-inducing in the film, straight, gay or in between. The film had no graphic sexuality, and no nudity involved in any of the male sex scenes. There were a couple of hetero sex scenes which did include minor female nudity, and I think you saw one of the guy's butts while he was bathing or something like that. This was a simple drama / tragic love story. I thought it was a good film, although I'll agree that it moved along a little slowly at times, but that's not unreasonable considering that it's not an action film. I'm sure you were joking, but there's no commonality with No Country For Old Men. The ending was sadder than Old Yeller.

Double talk?

I really never had sex with a prostitute. As I recall I've only paid women to have sex with me.

No, it's not double talk, you addle-brained ass fuck. How convenient for you to not quote the next two sentences that went on to clarify the point. Perhaps you didn't bother to read further than this. I guess I could have stated it more clearly in the quoted text, but you're being deliberately dense here.

Winnow mentioned that some of the icky man-on-man action may have been edited out since he was watching it with commercials and that some might be concerned that watching it would produce raging hard-ons in unsuspecting viewers. I was merely making the point that since it's not a film that aims to titillate, and the limited man-on-man scenes are purely plot-driven and not explicit, neither were likely to be an issue. The film was not an erotic film, although it incorporated some erotic moments. I think you'll agree that there's a world of difference between an erotic film (e.g. Behind The Green Door) and a drama that incorporates implied sex, showing a bit of non-nude kissing and groping but cutting away with merely the strong implication that sex happened. The only nudity in a sexual context was that of female actors engaging in hetero sex.

Any male on male scene is uncomfortable to watch. In fact, it's just yucky.

A female version of Brokeback Mountain would top Titanic in all time box office sales.
