What the hell did I do?

Post by Pherr the Dorf »

So I was doing a couple things at once and plugged in a USB stick and suddenly my screen went ummm a sort of lemon lime color. My colors are all fucked, everything is yelloweygreenish tint and it is really fucking with my world here. Tried ripping the card out and reinstalling it (geforce 7800) and that got me nowhere. I have no clue wjhat the hell happened but I think I fried my card which is going to royally piss me the fuck off. Is there a fix?

Since you were plugging something in at the time it when all whacky, there's a good chance something got zapped.

No way to tell unless you have another video card to test your system.

Colours going funky is usually the monitor rather than the video card (often just a loose connection/bent pin/broken wire from the cable).

I'd try a different monitor before a different video card...

did you plug your usb stick into your monitor? if so, or possibly anyway, you could have shook the connection loose of the wire to the monitor (assume yours works that way)

1. Remove USB stick
2. Power everything down
3. Open Case, carefully re-seat video card, grounding your offhand on metal side of case
4. Unplug, examine and replug external cables
5. Boot it up and see if that worked

Easy enough to do without having to swap HW yet...

this has happened to me a dozen times maybe. its always the vga cord.

failing that, purchase a variety of novelty sunglasses with colored tint. try each one of them on until shit looks normal
