A cat's discovery of a hiding place for child porn videos has led Austin police to arrest a 24-year-old suspect.

Luis Jimenez has been charged with possession of child pornography. A woman who moved into an apartment in September in the 400 block of E. William Cannon Drive noticed that her cat could stick its head in a gap between the pantry and the ceiling in the kitchen, according to an arrest warrant.

A friend of the woman's reached into the gap and pulled out DVDs containing child pornography, the warrant said. The woman and her friend took the discs to the apartment complex management, which provided police with the names of the previous tenants, including Jimenez and a woman who was living with him, according to the warrant.

After police could not identify the fingerprints on the discs, they called Jimenez's roommate Wednesday, the warrant said. She was still living with Jimenez at another address and told police that they could check for illegal files on her computer, the warrant said. The computer was the same one she owned at the apartment where the discs were discovered, the warrant said.

Police found a video file on the computer Thursday with child porn, according to the warrant.

Police told the woman where they had found the child porn, the warrant said. Jimenez, who was there while police were examining the woman's computer, interrupted investigators and told them that he had been cleaning the area where the DVDs were later found and "touched something but did not know what it was," the warrant said.

Jimenez told police later in an interview that he had downloaded the child porn videos onto the woman's computer and copied the files to DVD while he was living with her at the apartment on E. William Cannon Drive, according to the warrant. Jimenez said he hid the files in the apartment without her knowledge and forgot about them when they moved, the warrant said.

He was being held today at the Travis County Central Booking Facility with bail set at $40,000. Possession of child pornography is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a fine up to $10,000.
