I love Michael MacDonald and Joe Cocker, so I instantly loved Taylor. He has so much music inside him. It is great watching him perform.

In my opinion (I could be wrong) I think that people like faith hill, carrie underwood, and a lot of other country singers in the last decade or so (mostly women) are far from your traditional country singers.. even like garth brooks.. etc. I think they are more pop/country if there is such a thing.

Country as a whole has shifted closer to pop, mostr defintely. Ole school country was way too boring and didn't appeal to the mainstream. They recognized that back in the early 90's. Back when every country singer had the good ole digitzed voice added over their own, just like much of the pop songs of today. Usually it is saved for the Ashlee Simpson types who actually can't sing very well.

Ok I only watch the initial shows because the bad singers are hilarious. Tonight this absolutely beautiful girl gets through to Hollywood and I decide to google her.

She already has been exposed to have a record contract. (A number of the Hollywood bound people seem to have them). There is a video of her posing with a Confederate Flag (interesting with the flag comments made here lately) and seems to be anywhere from 17 to 23 depending on the source.

I watch the first handful of episodes for the same reason (well my girlfriend watches the whole season but I stop paying attention.) There was some really funny shit, but the one that had me going was the kind of stalker version of barenaked ladies guy that they had to escort out, I was laughing hysterically at him.

I am kinda surprised too, and I agree on the takedowns. It's the drama and funny shit that makes the show enjoyable for me, once you get to the point where everyone can basically sing I'm bored out of my mind.

Ok I am done, even the bad singers are just comedians and now they are putting out press releases after their appearances. Aparently No Sex guy and Stalker guy just wanted to hype their comedy appearances and several more that made it through tonight have recording contracts, or had them.

I only watch the crappy singers and I was not naive enough to think that this was not going on, but it seems like there are No real amatuers trying out anymore.

I've never watched a season of AI before, but I've been coerced into watching this one. I have to say things that annoy me the most are:

1) AI spending more than a quick 10 second clip on the people who have zero chance of making it due to lack of talent.
2) AI taking the time to show me someone's sad story... when they have zero chance of making it due to lack of talent.
3) I have nothing personally against Paula Abdul. I like her. I know she's battled some personal demons/health issues. That said, I think someone needs to change her meds because she just looks robotic and almost emotionless. 90% of the time when they show her face, I can't tell if she's going to laugh or break down crying.

I'd add that I really, really like Simon for his brutal, brutal honesty.

It's inevitable, the way Idol will be from here forward is decided by the masses that vote (majority of which are probably 12-18) so voting is going to be based off of looks, and very under-developed tastes in music. To be honest I have never seen a contestant in the final 12 of any season of american idol whose cd I would look for a torrent of, let alone actually pay for in a store.

That's awesome. I've basically discovered that I like singing games. I'd buy Rock Band in a heartbeat if there was a snowballs chance in hell my wife would let me get a PS3 or 360. I do have a PS2, so I end up getting these games for that. I've discovered that I really like singing games. With friends, it's basically just karaoke in the comfort of your home and it's a lot of fun.

You're 100% correct. Until pretty recently though, I didn't know she was from AI! I just haven't really paid attention to AI other than the occasional youtube video someone would link me to. I've never watched more than 1 episode in a season until this year, and didn't really have an interest. Up until a few months ago, I could have probably given you 5 names of Idol contestants.

Yeah same here, I have beat the singing solo tour on expert, and can get 100% or close on a lot of songs on hard. I am working on getting 100% on expert to get the achievement, I'm gonna get all 1000 for rock band! The Black Sabbath song "paranoid" I think is the one I will probably get it on, for some reason I can just nail the vocals on that one.
