National Treasure: Book of Seekrits

Post by Winnow »

I gave the original a 68/100 so I'll give this one 59/100

Taken as a whole, it's a sort of entertaining 2 hours but this sequel loses all grip on reality.

In some parts, you feel like you're playing a Lara Croft game, solving puzzles where you need to jump around. Gates (Cage) it seems is capable of anything. They don't even pretend to make the clues hard to solve anymore, he just makes amazingly accurate guesses within about 10 seconds of film time after receiving a clue.

Gates manages to kidnap the president, break into high security areas in London, the Oval Office, Library of Congress, etc. He's got a sidekick that can instantly hack into anything. It's almost like there's no challenge, and no drama.
I should probably rate the movie lower but it was watchable and when I think of the Aliens vs Predator type movies out there, this one has to score quite a bit higher than those.

The lead female actress (Diane Kruger) in the movie is hot and would make an excellent Emma Frost/White Queen in a future X-Men movie IMO.

Overall, the movie is too outlandish and breaks down into almost slapstick comedy at times. The original at least gave you some opportunities to ponder the mysteries of U.S. history. This one doesn't do that at all.

The final scene is of Gate's sidekick receiving a new car. The movie ends with him accidentally taking off in reverse and backing into a car...horrible ending/comedy.
I usually like these type of movies but this one was a jumbled mess.
