My votes:
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
I don't listen to many new CDs though.

Re: Albums of the year 2007
That Roisin Murphy album is dreadful.
I'd go for In Rainbows as the most notable album. Calvin Harris is fun and all, so I guess he maybe deserves a mention. It was a good year for music, but I didn't actually really feel particularly gripped by many of the albums this year as I did, say, last year. Other albums of note are:
Au revoire simone - The bird of music
Kings of leon - Because of the times
Mika - Life in cartoon motion
Tv on the radio - Return to cookie mountain
Although Carnavas by Silversun Pickups and 9 by Damien Rice were released officially in 2006, 2007 was their year. They were both better than virtually any album released in 2007, apart from maybe Radiohead.

I really wanted to get into this one but aside from Papaer Planes, I really didn't like it much.Gzette wrote:I'd say M.I.A. - Kala

Re: Albums of the year 2007
I'd probably say that In Rainbows is the most significant album of the year, and a good one too.
As for what I've enjoyed the most, I guess they are the ones that top the most played list in winamp. Other than In Rainbows, I don't know how many of these I would really call candidates for album of the year, but here they are.
01 - Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace
02 - R.E.M. - R.E.M. Live
03 - PJ Harvey - White Chalk
04 - Trey Anastasio - Horseshoe Bend
05 - Radiohead - In Rainbows
06 - John Butler Trio - Grand National
07 - White Stripes - Icky Thump
08 - Buffalo Tom - Three Easy Pieces
09 - Dolores O'Riordan - Are You Listening
10 - Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
I listen to most of my music on my computer using winamp, but this doesn't include what I've listened to on my portable player or on my Tivo. It seems to be fairly close, though. I was surprised to see that only the top 5 of these are in my top 30 most listened to albums overall. Foo Fighters' latest is the only one in the top 10 at #6 -- older studio or live albums by Phish (1-2, 5), Hüsker Dü (3) and Bob Dylan (4) own spots 1-5 overall. Stats began around June or July when I got a new computer. Conveniently for me, I tend to listen to albums at a time rather than jump from song to song, so winamp's play count is a reasonably accurate indicator for album plays in my case (it just counts song plays, not album plays).

There isn't an album released in 2007 that I listen to more than Aesop Rock - "None Shall Pass". It's got a song about Pirates (The Harbor is Yours) ffs!

Re: Albums of the year 2007
Don't know how I forgot Arcade Fire - Neon Bible. It's great.
Re: Albums of the year 2007
Trinity Revisited - Cowboy Junkies (with guests). Natalie Merchant and Margo Timmins (their regular lead singer) singing Misguided Angel is gorgeous.
American Doll Posse - Tori Amos
One Cell In the Sea - A Fine Frenzy
Breakfast in Bed - Joan Osborne
Courage - Paula Cole
Under the Blacklight - Rilo Kiley
Little Voice - Sara Bareilles
Goin Home - A Tribute to Fats Domino - Double CD with a host of great artists.
I like what I have heard so far on the Raising Sand CD but I need to listen to it some more. If you like it, check out Robert Plant's version of Valley of Tears on the Fats Domino tribute.

Re: Albums of the year 2007
I was listening to Radiohead "In Rainbows" yesterday at physical therapy. I just closed my eyes rode the exercise bike and enjoyed the experience. It is a great album.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon
Re: Albums of the year 2007
Honestly I was disappointed by the latest Paula Cole album. I think I listened to it twice so sorta gave it a chance. It just seemed to be missing something. Don't really remember anything specific about it other than it being rather underwhelming and just... plain.
I didn't know there was a new Rilo Kiley album out though so thanks. Will definitely be giving that a listen.
Have never heard of Sara Bareilles though. Will have to look for that.
And everyone seems to be raving about In Rainbows. I'll have to give that a listen as well.

Re: Albums of the year 2007
Really enjoying A Fine Frenzy - One Cell in the Sea. It's a fantastic debut that gets better with each listen. It has a few issues here and there 'You Picked Me' for example. It's obvious she can write a catchy hook and verse but if I was her producer I would have said "More verse, less chorus" as the second half of the song pretty much ruins it for me with the repitition.
Sara Bareilles... I found two of her albums. To be honest I wasn't really impressed, The music was competent on it's own but it was fairly ordinary. Nothing really made it stand out to me and I found it rather forgettable.
I was a bit disappointed with the latest Rilo Kiley as well. For one thing it was only 37 minutes. Fairly skimpy as far as albums go. And the songs that were there didn't really seem that strong to me.
Radiohead - In Rainbows. I'll probably get some flak for this as everyone seems to love it.. But eh.. I can't see why. I don't know what it is with Radiohead and annoying songs but they seem to have one on each album. For this album 'Body Snatchers' is that song. At least it's nowhere near as annoying to me as The Gloaming I almost had a hard time continuing on after that song. Anyway, I'll give the CD another chance. I've only listened to it once so far so perhaps it will grow on me.

no kidding. it really seemed like blake and jenny were phoning it in. disappointing after they both had such strong side project releases in 2006. the bird and the bee opened for them at their dallas show this fall, and their self titled LP was amazing.Aslanna wrote: I was a bit disappointed with the latest Rilo Kiley as well.
