Holiday weekend DVD sales!

Post by Fairweather Pure »

I may just post these whenever I do a mini shopping spree. It's a good place to throw out some small reviews from usually older movies and also let others know about sales at major retailers.

It was a good day of shopping again, that's for sure. All movies are in widescreen as always.

Wal Mart:
The Perfect Storm $1.99 - Totally worth 2 bucks. I found this on a back shelf all on it's own.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend $7.50 - I got this mainly for my wife, but have to confess I've wanted to see it as well. Silly concept, but should be fun.

Meijers:
AI $4.99 - I really enjoyed this movie. The special effects are fantastic and the story is great up until the very end. It's a pretty heavy story overall, but I appreciate a decent tearjerker now and then.

Target:
Alien Triple Pack (1,2,3) $9.99 - Good sale. I've been looking to buy these forever. The package didn't say widescreen or full, so I took a chance. Not only are they widescreen, but each dvd had extras (making of, trailers, ect). I had the first one (Alien) in my hands earlier for the same price that I picked up all 3 in this box set!

Shawshank Redemption $5.00 - Yet another film that has been on my list for some time. This movie never fails to impress me. I've always liked Tim Robbins, and he really does a good job in this movie.

Best Buy:
From the Earth to the Moon $21.00 - This is my steal of the day. All HBO seasons were marked 50% off for 2 days only. In the giant display, they did not have this movie displayed or listed. I went to the shelf and took my copy from there. 720 minute runtime for about 20 bucks? Hell yeah. The SRP on this set is $99.99. Best buy had it for $54.99, don't ask why it only cost me $21.00. I guess they were rounding down or something. I've wanted this for ages. I put this right up there with Band of Brothers as the best mini series ever made.

There ya go. Eight movies total for about $50. I'm telling you, From the Earth to the Moon may be one of the best deals I have ever gotten.

It looks like that From the Earth to the Moon boxed set is low on Amazon as well. $20.99 + Free shipping if you get the order up to $25.00.

I actually risked going out shopping on Friday after Thanksgiving. My goal was to get a 500gb external HD for $87 but as it was I was too far back in the line that morning. So instead later that day I went to Best Buy to take advantage of their $5 dvd sale.
I bought:
The Decent - Better than I had expected but having that cast and no nudity really was a bummer.
Pathfinder - I really liked this one. Vikings and Indians. Much Ramboesque fun.
Heartbreak Ridge - I used to have it on tape but wanted it on dvd. Love Clint movies.
V for Vendetta - Didn't watch this yet.
Smoking Aces - This was a cool movie. Alicia Keys is damn hot.
House of Flying Daggers - Didn't watch this yet. I love my kung fu movies though.
