Ratatouille ★★★★★

Post by Winnow »

Ratatouille is the best animated film in years. It's a Pixar movie.

A solid 9.2/10 for an animated movie. Ranks up there with The Lion King.

Takes about 30 minutes for the story to get going and then it's off to the races for the next 110 minutes.

Took my family to see it this weekend. We all liked it quite a bit. It will be a must-get when it comes out on DVD.

I liked it a lot, but it's nowhere near lionking goodness. Lionking is simply one of the all time greats.

I'd rate them equal and the nod to Ratatouille for the Food Critic's voice over Scar's voice (they both sounded similar)

Of course, James Earl Jones's voice was in the Lion King so that is a big plus.

Lion King was an Epic Myth, Joseph Campbell would have loved it, that is why it was so good.

I wasn't all that impressed. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't really good either. Meaning nothing in it really made it stand out.

7/10

This movie has a 96 rating on Metacritic. It's a must see for those that like animation films:

I really didn't care about the movie. Very much worse than the likes of Toy Story, The Incredibles, Monsters & Co., Finding Nemo... Metacritic is good for video games but I hardly take critics' takes on movies seriously.

I'll revisit this thread in three years. It looks like Ratatouille is like a fine wine that will be more appreciated with some time gone by.

I'm not sure potheads were really the target audience for this movie.

And movies are considered art (usually) so opinions about them are more subjective than something like video games.

Are you kidding? It was animated, potheads are like the #2 demographic behind children for all animated movies.

I'll check it out (on weed) and let you know what I think.

Is it out on DVD yet?

True. It was about food and talking rodents. What more could one ask for?

I thought it was obvious. I was simply offering up a reason why you didn't like it. Don't spend too much time thinking about it...

I found it pretty entertaining, and it looked absolutely fantastic. Imo the best looking animated film from Pixar so far.

Story was a bit silly, but I enjoyed it :)

Really good flick. The story went into a very different direction than most any other kid's movie I have seen. While it wasn't as stylized as some of the best pixar movies, it's realisim was equally astounding to watch. The only place I think this movie really lacks is in its re-watchability. The pace was a bit slow and the subject manner is also kind of obtuse for a kids movie. I'm nitpicking really. It was great for me and I'm not about to knock the movie based on what I think kids may or may not like.

Overall, it exceeded my already high expectations. Pixar is #1 for a reason, and Ratatouille is yet another diamond in the crown.

i liked it. agree that the main plotline dragged a bit.. however i also felt parts of the story were rushed, notably the relationships between the characters.

I also found the critic character hard to swallow. Oooh watch out hes going to.. uh.. give you a bad review.. O-O-O-O-OOOOOH. The roles of the critic and the bad chef would have been much more natural had they been transposed.. The chef should have been the dark villain, selling out the company and plotting to do something more interesting than writing a bad review.. Maybe plotting to kill Linguini or Remy to avoid the stipulations of the will? The role of the light, goofy villain that had a grudge against Gusteau but was redeemed in the end should have gone to the critic, or possibly to the health inspector IMO. but what do i know? just my thoughts.

the DVD version has an extra called "Our friend the rat" or something which was actually as funny as the movie.
