What are you most looking for in our next President?
Try to keep it to one sentence... What are you most looking for in our next President? Healthcare reform? Better Budget? Pullout from Iraq? What is it?
Me personally: I'm hoping for a President/executive branch that stops interpreting the laws (the job of our judicial branch) and starts following them.

Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Re: What are you most looking for in our next President?
Can it be a run-on sentence?
I'm looking for someone who I feel is more intelligent than myself, who has my (read: the country's) best interests in mind rather than the interests of large corporations that he and his friends are financially tied to, who is more interested in assembling the best cabinet for the country rather than just giving jobs to his friends, who can recognize and admit when he has made a mistake, whose main priority is not to toe the party line, and who will respect and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
Tall order, I know, I might as well be hoping Santa Claus will run in '08. But if those were someone's priorities, I think that most of their stances on issues from the war to health care would probably end up being in-line with what I would call reasonable.
If you'd like to boil it down into a more succinct sentence: The opposite of George W. Bush.
(please note that I use "he" in a gender-neutral sense throughout this post. at this point I don't think she's my candidate, but it could end up being Hillary. the use of the masculine pronoun was not done in any attempt to exclude her. insert Hillary-basher joke about masculinity here)

Spending more money building up our own country as opposed to giving so much to other countries, Investment and incentives in building the infrastructure to support electric cars, and massive increases in space travel research and development.

I'm seeking someone who has the charisma and leadership of Ronald Regan.
However, I fear in this media driven world, no one man/woman will be able to bring us together, because the opposing side will not allow it. They will continue to trash the other guy to position themselves for the next election.

I'd like someone who will start the long process of getting our economy back on track that makes alternative energy a national mission, much like Kennedy made landing on the Moon our focus in the 60's.
Then again, we've only got 4 years left of quality living. Enjoy them!

Is this a reference to the 2012 doomsday prediction Winnow?Winnow wrote:I'd like someone who will start the long process of getting our economy back on track that makes alternative energy a national mission, much like Kennedy made landing on the Moon our focus in the 60's.

As far as what I'm looking for, less givernment would be good. The government is supposed to be FOR the people, not to push them around and dictate every little aspect of our lives. Ron Paul is looking good to me right now. I also want someone who will oppose oil and strive for alternative (clean) energy and space/science/health research/advances. Basically someone who will move America and the human race forward.

I'm looking for someone with big ideas for change and the ability and means to get those changes done (or at least started). I'm also looking for an administration that will attempt to undo as much damage as possible that the current administration has done in terms of our country's image, our increasing financial woes, and of course the current war.

Complete pullout of Iraq and reduction of executive power \ restoration of our civil liberties.

As far as quality of character goes, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, to be in a position to run for pres, you have to milk your way to the top, and only the best milkers even try. There are plenty of individuals who would be bright enough for the position but only a few that a. want to do it or b. have the connections and/or money to do it.Sylvus wrote:I'm looking for someone who I feel is more intelligent than myself, who has my (read: the country's) best interests in mind rather than the interests of large corporations that he and his friends are financially tied to, who is more interested in assembling the best cabinet for the country rather than just giving jobs to his friends, who can recognize and admit when he has made a mistake, whose main priority is not to toe the party line, and who will respect and uphold the Constitution of the United States.
If there's a candidate that understands fiscal responsibility, relatively straightforward, doesn't try to be a moral authority through their religion, and can be willing to be apart programs that benefit people with lesser means because they understand the overall societal benefits, they have a good chance at getting my vote.
My wife is a much bigger democrat than i'll ever be and she never understands when I vote for an off candidate that isn't in the main thick of things. I absolutely hate the, "your vote won't mean anything" angle. Drives me f'ing nuts. If everyone did it, they'd all mean something. Just because you're voting demo doesn't mean you're not going to get a coniving corporate-shill hypocrate.
Sorry I couldn't keep it to one sentence. If i had to it would be, "even though i tend to run democrat, i will never vote for a hillary"

If you're looking for something that separates Hillary from the rest of the pack, that's not it. At best, Hillary's a hermaphrodite.miir wrote:So in other words, you're most looking for a penis?Ashur wrote:Not Hillary.

Re: What are you most looking for in our next President?
I want someone who's down to earth and either used to be a common man or understands what it's like. I'd rather not have a president that was born with a silver spoon up his or her ass. They'd also have to have good ideas too!

Re: What are you most looking for in our next President?
I'd like someone that is tough when tough is needed, willing to compromise when it's the smart thing to do, and that can be respected on both sides of the aisle and put some of this insane party politicking to rest.
