i need a card that can accept S-Video, Composite, or HD input from another VGA card in a separate machine. I currently have a card that does this, but it only works in a single resolution (whatever the standard is for TV.. since it is just a TV capture device)
I need to be able to capture much larger resolutions that would be standard on PC's these days, and preferably in widescreen. All I have been able to find anywhere are cards that capture TV and I'm sure will have the same issues with resolution.
anyone have any experience with this shit? I'm pretty much exhausted on researching it

video capture card

Re: video capture card
Silly question - but why don't you just capture on the machine you are trying to hook up to the other machine?
Other than that, I know there are really high end capture cards that will accept HD inputs so you'll get 1280x720 or 1920x1080 (but these are still standard tv sizes now a days)
Check the haupage site, if they don't have it, they can probably point you in the right direction.

even 1 frame lost on the main computer would be intolerable!

Re: video capture card
on that page:

These cards will not record from Component Video or RGB Video Sources! The HD signal must come from Antenna or Cable TV!

Re: video capture card
yeah i'm pretty fuckin lost. I think i'm the only person on the planet to have ever wanted to record video output from a PC WITH a PC because I can't find a single iota of information on it w/ google.
this is my VGA card

no fucking idea what "HDTV / S-Video Out" is. How is that different from a standard S-Video out? I'm pretty fuckin certain that its impossible for actual HDTV to go over S-Video.. being a digital signal versus analog. Do they mean the HDTV out is actually the DVI out? Maybe they just mean the S-Video transmits higher widescreen resolutions? (pretty sure thats impossible too) motherfuckerDVI
TV-Out: HDTV / S-Video Out

They are referring to the port labeled "Tv-out" here: http://images10.newegg.com/NeweggImage/ ... 071-02.jpgcadalano wrote: no fucking idea what "HDTV / S-Video Out" is. This port can have a standard S-Video adapter plugged into it for S-Video quality signal, or you can use the Red/Blue/Green wire adapter pictured here, for component signals:

You are correct that S-Video can't transmit high quality or widescreen signals, I guess they just designed the port to be backwards compatible with S-Video.
My question is, Your video card is going to have to output the same signal twice, once to your monitor connected through DVI, and then once through this port, or through the other DVI connector (either of which will be picked up in the 2nd machine and recorded). Won't outputting the signal twice cause a performance hit? especially if you use S-Video or component and so it would have to convert the signal?

Re: video capture card
currently I have a card rigged to output to S-Video and it doesn't affect performance at all. I can only imagine that doubling up a non-converted signal over DVI would also not be a significant hit, but again I don't know anything about this shit. My only problem with my current setup is that, afaik, S-Video is 100% cockblocked from widescreen.
I found on slashdot a few possible solutions in VGA/DVI recording cards (which are apparently called "Frame Grabbers" and not "Video Capture" devices.. hence my poor luck on google). Its also possible to convert DVI into SGI and then use an HD tuner card to accept it back onto a PC, but that solution would be like $2k at cheapest afaik. All of these devices seem to be more about providing high definition rather than widescreen. I'm not really interested in maintaining the crisp definition of the image.. the quality that S-Video gives me is just fine... but, from what I can understand, any solution that might give me widescreen will by nature also be high resolution.
So I looked at the VGA/DVI cards and I still havent found a single one that specifies whether or not its able to record in widescreen formats. All of them just say "Up to ____x____!!". I sent a few emails out to the companies that looked promising. Maybe I'll have some luck
