Need program to help, internet idling during games

Post by Asheran Mojomaster »

I've been looking everywhere but I cant find a program that works for me. When I play many games (Age of Mythology, Gunbound, Gunz) online my internet connection goes idle and I get disconnected. Its because of the retarded setup at my new condo but until the cable company comes out to fix it I'm screwed. They have some shitty router setup to control the internet and its not "made to play online games" from what they said and if I swap it out for my own router the internet doesnt work at all.

Anyway, the question I have is, does anyone know where I can find a working program that will keep my broadband connection alive? I've found some for dialup and some that say they work for broadband but none so far have worked for me and one was a virus. I've found a workaround but its only a temporary solution. I can play Warcraft 3 games so if I start a Warcraft 3 multiplayer game as long as I am in the game then my connection stays stable so I can alt tab out to play something else. That causes its own problems though as Age of Mythology wont run well like that and I never know when I will be disconnected from the WC3 game and then disconnected from whatever else I am playing as well.

what he's saying is start an extended ping to some website that responds to pings before you start your game session. Run the command above in a dos box and your connection will not drop.

Would that spam google with pings or is there a way to set the timing of the pings?

Spam Yahoo or some other site!

I'd probalby agree. Do you really want to be pinging every second? I don't see a way to limit it with Windows commandline ping but there may be others out there that let you set an interval. Some IM clients also let you send a keep-alive thingie. Might want to look into those. Can also search Google for other keep alive tools. Might want to look at this one: http://www.downloadsarea.com/Applicatio ... sp?id=6087 No telling how well it works but it's worth a try! Although it seems like it's made for dial-up connections so maybe not what you need.

If you think 32 bytes/s are going to be a problem to Google... you could always ping your ISP.

If it makes you feel better add a -l 1 to the ping command Winnow.
