Would you be mad as well if you had bought a horse and buggy back in the day and the company started selling cars a year later?
I don't understand people being upset with upgraded products over the years. Nothing was promised and you know exactly what you were getting when you made the purchase. (except for the heating issues which MS is shelling out one billion dollars to fix)
I had a TV once that just had composite video. Next year's model had S-video...a little later component...I took all my TVs back and demanded new ones. I'll do the same when holographic TVs come out. Fucking bastards improving their products over the years. I'd feel much better if they made them worse each year! There are 100 bazillion people with original PS2s...they should all demand the slim versions! Fuckers! They can't be using newly developed parts to makes things smaller without giving everyone a new version!
If you act soon, you can buy a PS3 and then bitch later when a rumble controller is included.
I disagree with you winnow, I think it is a valid gripe. The analogies you are making just aren't fair analogies, there is a huge difference between hardware being updated in a video game console that probably should have been present to begin with, and automobiles replacing the horse and buggy. IMO, everyone that sends their 360 in to be replaced after this new hardware ships should get a model back w/ the new hardware.
If your argument is based on the HDMI point, no, I would not take it back. If your argument is based on the heating flaw, maybe. Just because they "should" have included a drink cooler does not mean that if they do that in five years, I should get that unit as a straight trade with my own.
I am talking the new 65nm thing, the heating issues, all that. Not the HDMI, I already have the Elite so I have that already anyhow. However, since all of them with the new hardware are going to have HDMI, I guess people would be getting that too.
Xbox 360 Premium Game Console with HDMI for $350
Frys.com is advertising the Microsoft Xbox 360 Premium Game System with an HDMI port for $349.99 plus about $9 for shipping That's over $100 less than the Xbox 360 Elite, which had been the only version of the Xbox 360 with HDMI. (Engadget confirms that the Xbox 360 is shipping with HDMI ports on Premium consoles.) This "Premium" system includes an Xbox 360 with 20GB hard drive, headset, wireless controller, component AV and Ethernet cables, and a power adapter.
Price comparison: Datavision for $349, Dell Home for $349 (neither with HDMI info).
At least some sites/stores are shipping the HDMI versions of the consoles.
Between this and the price drop, this Christmas MAY be time to break down and pick one up.
Of course I said that last year too, and lost interest when I saw the games lineup. This year looks stronger though.
Let's think the unthinkable, let's do the undoable, let's prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all. - Douglas Adams

If you weren't well off your opinion would be a little different most likely
It's not like HDMI wasn't around when it came out initially.
HDMI was around when they developped the board for the 360 but it was nowhere near the standard it was when the PS3 came out.
Sony was going to put it in the PS3 for the same reason they put in Blu Ray and the Cell. Cause they helped create those and they have a stake in those technologies succedding. MS doesn't have and of those ties with any technologies so can't be as quick in adopting them.
