I've installed em both and my system hasn't died. That can only be a good thing.

Reliability Fix Pack - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938194
That being said, I haven't noticed any real performance increase from the OS after I installed the updates(although my HDD is thrashing a lot less now that I think of it). These will be available on Windows Update next week(most likely).

Re: Vista Performance and Reliability Packs available for Downlo
Installed them this morning. I've done a couple of large rar extracts and moved files from one drive to another and never got the file transfer wait dialog. It still doesn't seem as fast as it should be. At least not as fast as an XP machine with slightly lower specs that I have.
I'd not experienced any video issues which is the main impact of the compatibility update so I don't know if it has made any difference for me at all.
The only issue I noticed was trying to open an RDP session from the Vista box to an xp laptop did not work the first time I tried after installing. Got some oddball error message about an internal process. I think there was some update to the tcp/ip stack mentioned. I need to go re-read the KB's to be sure though.
