Not much excitement there. A price cut barely into 7 months of sales just goes to show how wrong they were with their initial pricing. Of course they already had a $499 model (20gb) but it didn't do so well.

They're also introducing an 80GB version of the PS3 for $599
Watch as the 60GB 499 units dry up and it will be back to 599 for an extra 20gb which I think they give away in cereal boxes now. Think it will have Motorstorm as well.
It's a ploy to ditch the 60GB stock which is rotting in the stores and then, I can't imagine in all seriousness, that the difference in price of 60 to 80gb is more than a couple bucks at most in the quantities ordered.

Ooooh. This is rich!
They're upping the HDD by 20GB, adding Motorstorm and ripping out the Emotion Engine! Buh Bye 98% Back Compat.

Do yourselves a favor. If you want a PS3, get the 60GB at 499$ while they're still in stock. It's the cheapest you'll be able to get a PS3 with this level of Back Compat ever.

If that's the case, it's basically a sale, not a price drop.Winnow wrote:They're also introducing an 80GB version of the PS3 for $599

Still filed under the rumor category:
I'd be nice if they could get the Premium down to 299.Microsoft is expected to announce price cuts at their E3 Press Conference tomorrow evening. Microsoft is holding its E3 press conference Tuesday evening. The price cut will affect all three Xbox 360 models. The $299 Core pack will drop to $249; the $399 Premium pack will drop to $349; and the recently released $479 Elite model will drop to $399.

Winnow called it:

Sony announced it is going to phase out the $499 PS3 units in the US and leave only the $599 units for consumers.

This has already been covered in the large PS3 thread a few days ago! It's funny how people taking advantage of the 'sale' are only helping Sony get rid of old stock collecting dust. Anyway, I'd probably consider the 60gb version better than the 80gb due to the backward compatability being handled by hardware.
