Do you mean alternating strumming up and down? (sorry im a guitar noob). If so I will give that a shot, I haven't tried it yet. The only song I can't 5 star on medium now is stupid carry me home.. got 92% a few times but thats still not enough.

I don't know how anyone can do anything other than alternating up and down, but I'm all thumbs with the thing ;) I can't get a handle on the 5th fret button. Had to put the game down for awhile out of frustration but been playing it again past few days. Hard is still hard.

The first round of DLC is up and it's damned expensive. Apparently they're all GH1 songs(Never played the first one myself).

I'll be passing cause of the price. 80-100 points per-song is acceptible, 500 for 3 imo is not.

The points system is so fucking retarded I'm probably never going to be buying anything from XBL again till its changed.

Show me where the fuck you can buy 500 points? What? No where? I have to buy 400, 800 or 1200 you say?(might be off). Seriously, fuck you M$.

The songs from Guitar Hero 1 are now available on Xbox Live for Guitar Hero 2. However each of the songs cost around $2.08 ($6.25 for 3 tracks). Given that Guitar Hero 1 has about 47 songs, that brings the total cost to $97.76. Pretty steep for a $40 dollar game on the PS2.

That is fucking hilarious. My wife and I were discussing this last night, about how much was too much to pay for the GH1 songs all at once. We figured we would have no problem paying $30 for them, since the original game is around $50. But $90? Fuck that. Fuck Microsoft for making us pay for shit after we already bought the game and that becoming a marketing model. Fuck them also for being dicks about wireless controllers for GH2.

That pricing is lame.

I could see $1 a song as you might now want every song from GH but +$2.00 per song is a rip. Poor strategy on Microsoft (or Red Octane's part). They'd make more money overall selling them for less.

Considering that Microsoft cock blocked them on the wireless controllers and that when the GOW guys wanted to post a free download MS demanded they charge for it, my money is not on Red Octane being behind this.

Yes. You should seriously be able to play passages twice as fast (roughly), because you're cutting the movements of your picking hand by half.
Just be glad they haven't incorporated hybrid picking, or sweep picking!

Does anyone have one of those wireless ps2 controllers? The flying V's? Curious about how they perform, what kind of battery life they have, etc.

IIRC PA did a big write up of them one day, extremely pleased, and linked to a store that sold various models. (I want to say for the GH2 release on PS2)

I don't remember any specifics though.

Game Almighty put up a few strategy tips on how to get the most out of your GH2 controller.

http://www.gamealmighty.com/story-indiv ... damentals/

Having never played GH2 prior to the 360 as well, I found those and practice mode @ slower speed to be invaluable.

Riding at about 75% on Psychobilly Freakout at Medium difficulty on Full Speed in Practice.

Pick one. Some people mod their guitars to have a killswitch like Buckethead uses on the song.

A killswitch (in the sense of what buckethead actually uses) is a switch that literally kills the signal. It shorts the electrical signal going from the pickups of the electric guitar to a ground, so that the sound stops immediately. You can flip the switch back and forth causing the sound to start and stop at the flick of a switch, instead of with a pick and muting it with your hands. If you watch the video I posted, you can see that Buckethead never actually picks the strings, he just plays his left hand, and presses his killswitch button to start/stop notes. Tom Morello also uses this extensively in solos(and some other guitarists to much lesser extents).

From what I can tell from the videos (I didn't go read any GH2 forums to confirm), they're using the word killswitch to identify the rerouting of the pick button to another button on the controller (the start or select button for example), which simply makes a much smaller and faster hand movement for the pick attack than the traditional button. Dregor could probably give you more detail.

There is an update to fix the controller issue. But run at your own risk:

http://www.gamingexcellence.com/xbox360/news/1488.shtml
We reported yesterday on a patch released for Guitar Hero II that was supposed to alleviate the issues with the Guitar Hero II X-plorer controller. It looks as if the patch may have made things much, much worse.

You'll definitely want to hold off on updating Guitar Hero II. Initially reported on Destructoid, a significant number of users who downloaded the patch subsequently have gotten the "red blinking light of death" on their Xbox 360 consoles shortly thereafter, with constant freezing another common issue. The verdict thusfar: large repair bills from Microsoft to RMA their Xbox 360 consoles.

The issue is brought to light by a thread on the Official Xbox Forums, with numerous users complaining about the same issue. Representatives for Activison and RedOctane were unavailable for comment at the time of this story.
