The most comments I'd ever seen on a Joystiq article in thep ast had been about 300 or so. This one in a matter of hours had shot up to 1000+ comments.Major next-gen console news coming tonight

We just got handed a scoop for some important news with one of the next-generation consoles. We can't talk about any specifics yet, but you have our word that this announcement is something worth waiting for.
Expect all the info tonight here at Joystiq at 12:01 a.m. Eastern.
Other sites ran with Joystiq's tease as a news story the Hype ball was underway.
At 1 min past midnight, a story on how IBM was already mass producing Broadway processors and shipping them to Nintendo(for the Wii) pops up.

The reader backlash was pretty horrible. Lots of hate was spewed forth. I'm going to read some of the comments on this thread later on today but suffice to say that comments have been turned off on the hype-builder peice and the Wii chip peice and a formal apology post has been put up by Joystiq's Editor.

I personally thought the whole thing and the resulting backlash was really hilarious.
One thing that really amuses me aside from this whole clusterfuck is that Nintendo and IBM actually had an NDA on chip production and shipments with news sites. Seems a bit over the top.
As a side note, seems like IBM is the true winner of the console wars. They're supplying processors for the Wii, PS3 AND the Xbox 360. Looks like losing Apple won't really hurt em that much after all.
