I get bizarre links to some really neat, and some really weird music vids from youtube. Everything from legendary concert footage, to bizarre shit taking place in some hole in the wall bar. (that's how I got that dragonforce link btw, which still cracks me up)
Anyways, today's link is an English cat who goes by the name Duracell. He's using midi-synth to play 8 bit video game theme songs, but uses a drum set as his instrument of choice. Pretty bizarre concept and inventive use of a primitive little gadget to do something pretty badass.
Anyways, hope you enjoy.

basically, the way it works...is the notes are programmed either with a computer or a keyboard into a midi device, but there is no assignment of rhythm. Instead, the device is programmed to take it's cues from the snare drum (for the melody, the bass drum handles the other stuff). If heard just as this it would sound pretty stupid, but he's devised a way to work the drum cues into a true part of the song.
I found a couple more performances of him (same song, but it's very different each time).

This one is worse quality, but you get to see him much clearer, and his performance is better I think. It's pretty physical!

In this one the song is much more refined, he's added some harmonies I was unable to hear before, the song has some defined sections, and it's a good performance. The vid quality is better, unfortunately most of the time they're showing young guys, high as a kite, trying to dance. But the audio quality is better too.
Pretty out there stuff, but I think it's pretty ingenious too.

Mentioning Petrucci's absense on RS's top 100 guitarists list reminded about this - It's not Duracell and I'm not Truant, but it could certainly be considered weirdass music (related) video...

A lot of it's just stupid, but hopefully anyone with any knowledge of Dream Theater or Petrucci's guitar-work in general will be able to get a laugh out of one or more of these. The second half of the "secret tape" kills me.
And to think, all I had to do was practice for 63 hours a day.

Yeah the Petrucci psycho excersizes were good for a laugh. The guy also did a couple for Yngwie J Malmsteen (not to be confused with all the other Yngwie Malmsteen's out there).

I would assume you're talking about this - http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Theater-Ann ... 28?ie=UTF8Sylvus wrote:If I'm not mistaken, I believe I saw a release date for a Dream Theater DVD that came/comes out today +/- a week or two.
Have you checked it out Drinsic? Is it worth watching?
I have no idea. I've only seen parts of the Scenes from a Memory Live dvd. It's impressive to watch, and I'm sure it would be amazing in concert, but I probably won't buy it.
The dvd you're asking about has an excellent rating (albeit a small number of reviews), but the people who buy it are almost guaranteed to be some die-hard DT fans that would never blaspheme against their musical pantheon.
Those are great. Shit, check out BATIO.Truant wrote:Yeah the Petrucci psycho excersizes were good for a laugh. The guy also did a couple for Yngwie J Malmsteen (not to be confused with all the other Yngwie Malmsteen's out there).

The guy is godshitting talented but I can't help but laugh when he starts to raise the double guitar in that near the end of the first video. I can imagine that in concert, with a column of light on him and smoke everywhere - and I laugh. There's also some videos of him going apeshit on his "X" guitar (four fucking necks), and that's just ridiculous.
