XML as HTML via XSLT

Post by Funkmasterr »

I have a bunch of issues that I am trying to find a solution to. Every now and then we get someone who's computer cannot seem to view xml as html via xslt.. They will not be able to display this page if they have this problem:

<a href=https://portal.hosted-commerce.net/wfds/doclist>This is the link I use to test that</a>

The problem is this.. When they log into our site, they cannot see their inbox like they should, its just a blank screen with a greyed out scroll bar on the right.

I have absolutely racked my brain trying to figure out how to fix this issue. I have checked all the setting in internet options a million times to make sure all necessary things there are enabled.

Does anyone have any experience with anything similar to this? Or have any suggestions? I haven't had much luck looking on google.

Give them all IE 6 since that's the only browser that worked on that page out of latest IE, Firefox, Opera?

Yeah, our site is only programmed to work for IE, it will not work with any other browser.

The first two things I have checked for this issue on every computer it has been a problem on are:

1- make sure they have IE 6

2- Uninstall Netscape and delete the registrey key if they have it, since netscape 8 ruins IE's abillity to render xml

I have had everyone all the way up my development team look at it with no luck, and haven't been able to find anything online besides the two solutions that I listed above.

How much should VV charge his company for all of the various tech help questions fielded here?

Cute. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure I figured this one out on my own ! I think that msxml is missing from the computers with this issue.

Well the way I understand it is that we did not have the choice to develop our systems for all browsers. What is the big deal about having to use a specific browser for certain things? I have no problem with having to use IE for Myspace.

Maybe the fact that other people use different browsers. Not everyone is a "you."

Browser dependency issues should have gone out with the 90's. When designing a web-site, one key factor is that you want to make it work with as many browsers as possible without losing key functionality.

As for your business use of the board, this is not the first thread which is why I brought it up.

because on the web, there's always someone who can do what you do but bigger, better, faster, and prettier, and if i don't have to switch browsers to do it, then i'm not going to.

Well, only time will tell. But as it stands right now, the company I work for has almost 60% of the market for 3rd party EDI providers.

the market is fickle. it's a bad business model to assume that just because you're on top now that customers will bend to your will.

Then one would think that they would hire competent designers and troubleshooters.

Anyone know of a good technical forum I can go to and possibly get an intelligent response to this question?

I have been spending an inordinate amount of time on it and I still haven't figured it out.

I can't speak to the quality of the forums, but a google search brought back this forum.

While you're there, feel free to stay there... rather than vomiting on this board, crying about how you're treated, threatening to leave forever, coming back asking for help, and not being satisfied with the time or quality of the responses you receive.

It has nothing to do with any of what you said, I asked a question and I basically got no valid responses. When someone asks for help, either provide assistance if you have any ideas or shut up.

Sorry to dissappoint you but i'm not leaving VV, I just figured I would try and find another forum to ask this question on where people aren't going to say stupid shit when someone asks for help (unlike what happened in this thread).

Thanks for the forum suggestion though and have a great day !

You're the dumbass that's trying to outsource your company's workload to unpaid people by seeking tech help for things you should probably not be fucking around with. Stop trying to earn Brownie Points and let someone that's qualified do their job.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm also doing this because it interests me and I want to learn. If me asking for help bothers you so much then ignore me, or don't read my posts or something.

Again, have a fantastic afternoon!

By the way, I figured this out on my own.

The problem ended up being the 50 different groups that IT people find it necessary to make for access on their networks.

I found this out when I got on a screenshare with an IT person and he let me mess with the network settings. The persons account was set up to be a local admin, and that was it. When I added them to all available groups on the network, they were then able to view the inbox.

My best guess is that rules that are set up for these groups prevent the user's account from accessing the necessary registry keys for xsl, etc.
