I'd take it one step further and ban all marriages. I think marriage is gay therefore anyone married is gay.

The solution is Civil Unions for everyone with separate child custody laws for those with children.

We sure do. If the powerful people really wanted to take care of the problems we have, and did so, what would they run their elections on?

As Midnyte says. If I understand right. This is a "vote-magnet". It's an issue that creates debate through the whole spectrum of voters.
Has a similarity to the socialist party's law on helmets for bicyclists here in Sweden! :D

I'm wracking my brain right now, but if anyone can think of a President/Administration that's been worse for our country, I'd be interested to hear it... I guess you could argue Nixon... Anyone have any thoughts?

I swear to god I'm not looking to start a flamewar here... if you have a reasonable argument for a President that did a poorer job, I'd love to hear it.

It's a smoke screen... I'm sure the dialogue went something like this...

Bush: Damnit guys, I'm takin' it up the arse in the polls, or at least that is what I hear since I don't read the paper but it's getting so bad in Condi is beginning to notice... and we are going to loose our majority in Nov if we don't do something, now I need ideas and I need them NOW

RNC: What about No Child left behind?

Bush: WTF are you thinkin'? People are starting to catch on that it was a big farce, States are suing us and the whole nation is teaching to a test rather than education <motions like he is going to slap the guy in a David Spade motion from PCU>

RNC: Um... Abortion? That's a good one and it will it make the fundies happy!

Bush: Well ya, but considering abortions are UP, that's not a good idea

Bush: Rove you still have them "missing" the CDC data right?

Rove: Yes sir, no one will know they went up until 2008 then we will blame it on the Democrats if they win! <snicker>

Bush: You're a good man Rovie!

Bush: Ok, something else?!?!?

RNC: How about all the "good we are doing in Iraq and how the people love us?

Bush: <pulls out a .45 and shoots the bastard> Next?

RNC: OK OK OK... I've GOT IT! GAY FUCKIN' MARRIAGE!

Bush: That won't work, all the fascist... I mean fundie states already banned it in the last election, but thank you Mr. Rove with your brilliant ideas to help get some of our more imcompetent Senators elected!

Rove: No problem Sir!

RNC: Yes sir I know that but lets make it National! we can override the states showing your true power!

Bush: I like your thinkin' son... Rove, will it work?

Rove: Hrm... it just might. You know at the end of the last election you came out against a national ban...

Bush: at WHOSE suggestion?

Rove: ... mine mine I know, but most people, especially our voters, don't remember what happened last week much less will they actually go back and look it up, we will leverage some of our staff "ministers" but start preaching about it again, most of those people are sheep anyway, it will be a walk in the park, we can do this, and it should draw most of the attention off the real... I mean other issues...

Bush: Ok then... lets do this, when should we start?

RNC / Rove: Right now, we haven't a minute to loose...

Bush: good thinkin'

So while we have another Vietnam on our hands, Iran and NK on the verge of Nukes, increasing poverty, increasing inflation, a national debt that is out of control, a new Talaban starting up in Somalia, students who can't read and the highest infant mortality rate in the civilized world... WE as a nation are going to try to ban Gay Marraige in our constution... GAH!

Disgusted...

The sad thing is that some people will buy it... hell I know some people today who are already up in arms about it again, freakin' idiots...

Nixon wasn't worse, Nixon was freakin' awesome and that's coming from a Liberal. While I don't agree with some of his policies he did a lot for this country but like Clinton got caught with his hands in the cookie jar so to speak. Bush took the higher road and accepts responsiblity for everything it's just no one is holding anyone responsible!

There has never been a President this bad IMHO... not in the last century at least...

Carter was a pretty bad president... he might come close but considering he was bad because he tried to do the right things, like using our Special Forces to get the hostiges out rather than selling illegal arms to Iran, I would still rate Bush worse...

I also believe that no one could have done a good job in the latter half of the 70s, no matter who they were... Carter walked into the worset recession since the depression, Bush walked into the best Financial footing this country had been on in probably 100 years and blew it...

it's a smoke screen to take people's minds away from the two decade pending quagmire in Iraq and tailspinning economy. the sad part is that it will absolutely work.

the next step will be the NSA kidnapping a blonde white girl.

I agree with every statement you made in this thread but this one. We where in a recession when Bush took over. The internet bubble had already burst, and the stock market had taken a big hit. The economic is actually one of the bright spots right now. My big problems are the trampling of civil liberities and stupid shit like said banning gay marriages.

The title made me think this was about Sharon Stone's acting career.

The thread was really disappointing as a result.

Marriage is bad for scientists:
Sunday, May 28, 2006

Marriage And Great Science Dont' Mix

Several years ago, Satoshi Kanazawa, then a psychologist at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, analyzed a biographical database of 280 great scientists--mathematicians, physicists, chemists, and biologists. When he calculated the age of each scientist at the peak of his career--the sample was predominantly male--Kanazawa noted an interesting trend. After a crest during the third decade of life, scientific productivity--as evidenced by major discoveries and publications--fell off dramatically with age. When he looked at the marital history of the sample, he found that the decline in productivity was less severe among men who had never been married. As a group, unmarried scientists continued to achieve well into their late 50s, and their rates of decline were slower.

"The productivity of male scientists tends to drop right after marriage," says Kanazawa in an e-mail interview from his current office at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom. "Scientists tend to 'desist' from scientific research upon marriage, just like criminals desist from crime upon marriage."

I can't believe someone actually got research money from any country to do that...

For one, the reson most of the people were males is because up until the last century most women weren't educated and couldn't be scientist...

Secondly of course the research goes down when someone get married because they realize that there is more to life than looking through microscope. The "selfish gene" to reproduce is much more powerful that the desire for knowledge...

That's your opinion. It also could be because their wives nagged the hell out of them about bullshit things like Sunday picnics when they were on the brink of a new discovery.
