I'm curious for all you guys big into downloading or burning movies.
In relation to box office opening dates how soon before or after can you get the same things (same quality) on either DVD or for download?
The reason I ask is I went downtown last weekend (before box office release I think) and both Da Vinci Code and X-Men 3 were for sale. All pirated of course and no extra features but full version of the movies and DVD quality for $5 each.
You guys get about the same downloading?
Down/DVD movies
I doubt they are DVD quality though.. Unless they run the film through a digitizer or whatever. I'm not up on my counterfeiting technology. Buy one and see how it looks!
Overall though I don't really agree with people who sell movies that just came out. I don't mind downloading three months after it's been out in the theater to see if you want to buy the DVD or not.. But if people really want to see something when it comes out they should go to the theater and spend the money. The counterfeiters shouldn't be making the money that should rightfully be going to the studios.

There's three main types of pre DVD release warez movies:
Telesync
-someone in the audience films the movie with a hidden camcorder
prescreener dvd
-someone copies one of the DVDs sent to movie critics to write reviews before the movie is released
None of them are that great but the prescreen dvd is usually the best quality if you don't mind the text warnings that pop up on the screen.
For DVD quality, you usually have to wait until a few days before the actual release of the DVD when a Best Buy employee or some other person with access to the DVD can copy it.
I don't think any illegal software or media should actually be sold. Share, don't steal! Evaluate and then buy if you like!
Telesync
camcorderPrecisely Telesync means a copy which was shot in an empty cinema or from the projection booth with a professional camera, directly connected to the sound source.

Yeah I'm not a big DVD collector myself. I only own 3 DVD's and all of those are over the counter. Hell I even pay for music I download just b/c I believe its the right thing to do.
This past weekend I had a few bored hours and was invited to check out the Da Vinci Code. While watched on the same 50 inch Samsung Plasma screen that I've been watching non pirated DVD's on I couldnt tell any difference at all.
I left about 3 minutes into X3 b/c I want to actually see that in theaters with the good sound too. (Shitty speaker setup on the plasma)

I have seen some of the "copies" from the streets all over SE Asia, and they pretty damned good. These are the copies he's getting. The piracy there happens as a way of life. It's out in the open, and that's part of what many companies have been trying to get the governments to react more strongly to. There have been stories recently about the US pushing China to be harder on pirates (warez not Arrrr!). Some of the stuff you can find is pretty innovative!Aslanna wrote:I doubt they are DVD quality though.. Unless they run the film through a digitizer or whatever. Yeah you can right out the gate and buy anything you want for about 5% of the original cost. From Prada/Fendi (I dont know shit about this stuff but I'm learning and buying for my wife) handbags for $15-20 each to Van's shoes (my personal favorite) for $20pr unless you buy 2-3pr then $15pr.
Hell you can take your X-box downtown and drop it off, pick it up 2 weeks later and you get a new harddrive and 80-100 games fully loaded on there for $200.
Oakleys = $20pr for anything you want
A VERY hot item here are the Throwback jerseys.
Here is the US Froogle link.

All here are $20 ($20 is pretty much the big price on lots of things downtown) for ANY shirt you want, they even come in the full out Throwback packaging.
From what I get the stuff here isnt knockoffs so much as coming from the actual Chinese/Taiwan manufacturer and just minus the import taxes and the name brand retail markups.
Of course some people are idiots and wind up going and buy (this happened a few months ago) them jerseys by the case and selling them on ebay for 1/2 off retail so about $60 up to $100-$300 profit per shirt.
But those are the dumbasses one of which is sitting in Levanworth as I type this.
