Atmosphere

Post by Sylvus »

Anyone familiar with Atmosphere? I was just introduced to them this morning, they are an underground rap duo, and so far I've only heard the track "Trying to Find a Balance". I really enjoy it, I'm going to try and check out more of their stuff. Just thought I'd pass it on.

If you aren't into idie or underground hip hop, don't bother, you probably won't like it!

God's Bathroom Floor is a good track as well. I haven't heard a lot of them. But what I've heard, I've liked.

I ended up getting the "Seven's Travels' album last night, and it is very good. If you end up liking them, check out anything by Slug as well. He's the MC from atmosphere, and he's got a good deal of solo stuff.

I knew the Search function would find something on these guys :)

I just discovered Atmosphere/Slug a few weeks ago. I have never been a fan of hip-hop or rap...but these guys are great. I have downloaded everything I could find by them..then I made some CD's of the really good stuff.

You should check them out if you've never heard of them. The song that I heard that got me hooked is, "Fuck you lucy" The next song I heard was Trying To Find A Balance....but there is a lot of powerful stuff out there.

I was actually just listening to their newest album again like 15 minutes ago, funny that you posted this tonight.

The song "The Arrival" is featured on Fight Night Round 3.

And yeah, Funkmasterr is going to chime in about how their music is shit, but he knows nothing.

Well, I wouldnt want to disappont. I'm not denying their talent, its just that depressing white boy rap is of no interest to me. I have heard a good deal of their songs (them being from MN and all) and have not liked a single one, but thats just me.

Say whatever you want about it, but i'll take some shit talking thug rapping any day over some white dude talking about how depressing life is.

Edit: I have yet to find a white rap/hip hop artist that I can bear listening to. I can tolerate some stuff by paul wall, but he is some kind of an anomoly.. I think maybe he is really black but had full blown michael jacksonitis.

What if it was a black dude talking about how depressing life is?

I guess let me elaborate. From what I have heard of atmosphere (my brother blasts it so loud a lot of the time, that its hard for me not to listen) its about a lot of average shit. Shitty jobs, blah blah, other middle class white gripes. I really dont want to hear about that shit, its not interesting music to me. It's basically the same thing with Eminem, its just that eminem has a screw loose and is mainstream.

I do not want to listen to rap/hip hop music to hear a some dude run you through a day in a poor white mans life.. it just bores me.. I guess I don't know what else I can say.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion...and I respect that.

My personal opinion is that it doesn't matter what color your skin is...if you choose to express yourself via your music...then do so. Caucasian people are born and raised in the ghetto and have hard lives as well. I happen to like Thug's style. Although I do not care for Eminem for some reason.

See, that's part of why I like it. It's more introspective and something that I can (and you should be able to) relate to. But that's not all that I like about it, he doesn't take himself too seriously and can be funny and intelligent at the same time.

I'm guessing you've had problems with a girl or lived in a smallish town in the midwest (THE SAME FUCKING TOWN IN FACT!) or something along those lines. Shit, I'll throw all of his albums on my playlist and come up with a better sampling. Perhaps you feel like you should be able to better relate to what it's like to be a black man, or be raised on the street, or to rob a jewelry store tell 'em "make me a grill", but you're only lying to yourself. And everyone else around you.

Oh, and Moon, Atmosphere is made up of Slug/Sean (words) and Ant (beats).

There is no ghetto in the state he is from.. There are pretty bad neighborhoods but they are a far cry from a ghetto.

And sylvus,
I can't relate to a lot of the shit that people like him or eminem or name your white rapper say. They annoy me, the shit they rap about annoys me. 98% of my friends are black or Jamaican, it has been that way for a long time, im not saying this makes me a thug or anything else of the sort, thats just the way it is, so thats what I more relate to.

Let me put it to you this way, although I know im just going to get ripped for saying this since I don't seem to be entitled to my opinion.. I don't want to listen to rap music for introspect, for intelligence, for progression, for positivity, I listen to it for what the majority of rap sounds like. If I want sophistication, Intelligence, Introspect, Deep thoughts by jack handy- I read a book or have a conversation with someone.
