So what's the deal with eBaum's?

No holds barred discussion. Someone train you and steal your rare spawn? Let everyone know all about it! (Not for the faint of heart!)

So what's the deal with eBaum's?

I've seen quite a few parody and cheap shots at this guy, but I have yet to see any news or factual sites that says why everyone is pissed off at him.

The whole thing started when someone submitted an animation that was created for YTMND and eBaum's hosted it like it was theirs. Specifically, it was this one.

It seems to me like the issue is that YTMND people claim that they create animations (which they do) while eBaum's just hosts things that people submit without even checking copyrights or authenticity.

Well.. not all YTMND's are created by the authors.. but at least they give credit 90% of the time to those who made it if they didn't. eBaums just steals that stuff, edits out the creator's watermark (if any), puts the eBaum watermark in. Then with advertisements on the site, he makes 6000 a day (so says wikipedia). It's theft.

I'm sure that wasn't thier goal, but the first thing I did was check out Ebaum's site to see what may have prompted the flash video. Seems like they just made a good add for him.

Somethingawful.com has had tons of things stolen by eBaum, and he tends to just ignore complaints.

Because Eric Bauman has made millions stealing other peoples work, slapping the ebaumsworld watermark on it and throwing ad's all over his page with zero mention of the original creators, no compensation etc.

99 percent of the requests made by the creators to remove content are blatantly ignored, forum posts are promptly deleted.

He is a giant piece of shit.

there is also a hilarious somethingawful thread where altf4 posts logs from an aim conversation with bauman.

meh, Eric just posts cool shit he sees on teh intraweb and hosts it all on his sight. how many of us would have ever seen "end of the world" or "badgerbadgerbadger" if it were not for ebaumsworld.com. I'm glad the guy makes $$ out of it too!

If you post your shit on the web. You give it to the world. dont get pissy if somone who makes a site that makes it all available at one spot makes some dough.

as far as the "attack" on somethingawful, its childish and silly, and was in retaliation for childish and silly shit they did at him, so it all evens out.

But its what you have to understand when you deal with a worldwide media such as the, wait for it, world wide web. Our laws mean diddly nothing to someone in singapore. yet they are just as capable to download and repost your shit to do whatever they want. Its not "right" but thats how it works. And if you want to keep a trademarked video or some shit safe you most definatly DONOT post that shit on the intraweb.

Oh that the best you can do?

If i posted some shit on the web, a flash movie i made, it would be BECAUSE i wanted people to see it. If a very popular place like eBaumsworld hosted it, I would actually be flattered. especially since now MORE people will see it. It would be nice for ebaumsworld.com to give credit to the real creators, but you'd have to be a complete moron to thing eric bauman created all the shit on his sight.

I agree in a perfect world, ebaumsworld would give you a link to and credit for your shit, but fuk it. life aint perfect. and i can deal with that, and not cry like a little fuckin baby and get good shit shut down just because tards like YOU thought beeing able to download free music from napster stepped on too many toes. If i wanna see funny shit, i goto ebaumsworld. If people like you had their way, it wouldnt exsist and half the shit we link here wouldn't have even been known about.

So what if Eric took out your copyright/watermark off your flash movie (swfcatcher ftw) and credited the work for himself, and also made some money off of it. You wouldn't get pissed off and just surf for more funny shit?

The DMCA and Berne Convention exist for a reason.

Did he actually take credit for making the movies, or did he just watermark them with a 'Hosted by' tag?

ebaums might be a way of scattering internet media to the winds, but most people who make those flash programs post them for people to see... on their home forums. From there they spread on their own still, often free of the forums raking in the mad cash from it.

I can't blame ebaums for posting the material. I do blame ebaums for the REMOVAL of the creators own watermarks and information. I do blame ebaums for NOT removing the creators works at the creators request. If you're gonna make money off someone else's work, at least show some respect for them.

Bauman's a piece of shit. There are some funny YTMND sites related to this incident... http://baumanletters.ytmnd.com/

Apparently the YTMND crowd has been harassing eBaum for quite a while now, which I find rather funny. I hope it continues.
