I never expected it before the holiday. I actually wouldn't be shocked to see it in January.

It's Blizzard.

Quick patch, Long patch, quick patch. LOOOOOONG patch.

I know it's been close to 3 months now since 1.8 has been out cause I've played my free month of EQ2 and am about to be charged for the 2nd time now, and I played 1.8 for a solid 2-3 weeks for sure.

I just looked it up. Patch 1.8 was released on Oct 11thclose to 10 weeks ago.

To quote Tigole:
We were hoping to Patch on December 13th but we all agreed that 1.9 was not ready yet and still needed some tuning and bug fixing. So we made a few changes and fixes and released those builds on the PTR. Currently, the PTR builds are pretty close to what we're going to release. However, because of the changes we've made internally, the PTR build is now out of date. We don't really gain anything by leaving an old build on the PTR. We're probably going to bring the PTR's up one last time to make sure the sync bug is fixed and then bring them down again.

It is unlikely that we will patch during the end of Decemeber. We like to have "all hands on deck" when we patch so we can respond to emergency issues as quickly as possible. Players in North America tend to think of it as "patch day" but for those of us at Blizzard, it's more like "patch week". One day we patch Europe, the next the US, then Korea, then China etc. -- all on different days (this is done so that we don't bring down their servers during primetime).

If you wanted an ETA, my best guess would be very shortly after New Years.

Frankly, infrequent updates was one of the reasons I quit WoW in the first place.

A patch every 3 months and an expansion every 2 years does not equate to dynamic content to me.

That's one thing I liked a lot about EQ2.
Monthly updates.

EQ2's put in a lot of features that I really liked in WoW while keeping the game challenging for the folks that want a challenge. I really enjoy that there are groups of people that group solely for the purpose of killing stuff and gaining experience. I've been playing this for 3 months now and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

Outside of instances, nobody seems to group in WoW.
Haven't really played EQ2 much in the past while but they seem to have struck a nice balance between solo and group content in outdoor areas...

I'm patching Test today to see the new graphic on Blessing of Protection (@#$%&), and while the files are installing... the first line in the patch message is:
World of Warcraft Client Patch 1.9.0 (2006-01-03)
So, I guess we all patch on the 3rd!
