Oh please God....if just one Christmas present this year, please let this be the one. Nothing is worse than corporate ownership of a sports team.
Braves may have a chance at another World Series

as much as i like being a part of the company that owns the Braves (like going to games free!), i think that as a fan of the team, they will be more likely to spend money to be more competitive with an individual (non-corporate) owner.
we'll see. It could be some time before this takes place as well. All that has really happened is TW has contracted with a consultant to look at various benefits of a sale, and spoken with a couple of people who would be potential buyers.

I hate the fact that the Tribune Co owns the Cubs. I know they can spend more money, but I can't really complain that they only spend $105 million. The only thing I complain about is that the number is set in stone. An individual owner would more easily be able to flex the payroll if a big name came along. This season's FA class is piss poor so it doesn't come back to haunt this year. Last year's Sosa debacle kept Hendry's hands tied with the budget and forced him to settle for Jeromy Burnitz when FAs like JD Drew and Maggs were on the market. Next off-season it's going to kill also, since it's going to be a very good FA class and the Cubs have a few of free agents that are going to be looking for hefty raises.
