RIP Richard Pryor.

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

(CNN) -- Groundbreaking Comedian Richard Pryor died Saturday of a heart attack, his wife told CNN. He was 65.

Pryor, who had been ill with multiple sclerosis, died at Encino Hospital near Los Angeles, at 7:58 a.m. PT. Jennifer Lee Pryor tried to revive him before paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital, she said.

"He enjoyed life right up until the end," she said. "At the end there was a smile on his face."

Pryor, who was born in Peoria, Illinois, on December 1, 1940, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1986.

"He was able to turn pain into comedy," his wife said. "He let the world see it, and that was his inspiration too.

"People said, 'If he can do it, I can do it.' "
*sigh*. That nigger was crazy. And the world was a bit better for it.

He was hilarious. The odd thing is my brother came down and told me not 5 minutes before this post was made about something odd that happened to him today.

He said he was reading in the paper about Richard Pryor, when a commercial came on tv for his new stand up (I think?) called "I ain't dead yet".

Always sad to see someone go that was a pioneer like he was for comedy.

Yeah about 2 years ago i believe comedy central did a tribute to richard pryor called "I aint dead yet motherfucker!" Just a lot of comedians and people who were close to him talking about him and his sets.

What sucked was that I actually had to check if he was still alive then, I couldnt remember.

Jon Stewart called him part of the comedy trinity, and i have to agree.

Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor and George Carlin.

I would be sad, though he did use drugs...

Whatever, he was a comic genius. There is not a comedian alive today who wasn't influenced by Pryor, living member of the Trinity included. If you've never seen a Richard Pryor standup, go to blockbuster or something, you owe it to yourself.

Are you two saying you get MS from drugs now?

What-the-fuck-ever :) If I can make it to 65 and have half the fun Pryor had in his life I won't expect anyone to "feel bad" for me either.

I don't think anyone's sad for him....

It's called posting on a thread. The thread is about a guy dying. I acknowledged his contribution. He was funny. He was a heavy drug user. I just don't feel sorry for him is all. I missed his comedy a long ass time ago. Pryor has been dying and unable to perform for a decade now. It's not a sudden loss like a Phil Hartman, John Candy, Chris Farley, John Belushi.....When they died it was a sudden loss, where the entertainment you were used to has been suddenly pulled away from everyone. Pryor has been dead for over 10 years. I don't feel sorry for him.

I remember sneaking Richard Pryor records into the house when I was a kid to listen to them in my room. We would keep it real low but mom always found out because by 10 minutes in we were all laughin' so hard she could hear... He also co-wrote the script to my favorite movie of all time "Blazing Saddles." While it's true we haven't seen anything new in a while, I still mourn his passing. He was one funny MFer!

My most prominent memory of Richard Pryor is from his performance in The Toy. That and his hair catching on fire...or was that Michael Jackson...or both?

I didn't know he co-wrote Blazing Saddles. Nice.
