Ogbar wrote:Well, despite the Philly fans, I've always liked McNabb, so I tend to root for him in most games. I personally find Pitt fans more annoying, frankly: they tend to be quite arrogant about their team - almost as bad as Yankees fans. I hate generalizing, but every Pitt fan I personally know plus all of those I hear on the local sports chat shows are that way, so that's the trend I see. But I have no data points on fan attitudes at their stadiums, though I'm sure you won't find too many love-ins if you wear the opposing teams jersey no matter what stadium you're at.

As for Philly's chances, I don't see them winning it all without a better running game. I like Westbrook a lot, but he can be stopped - they need a power running option to really open up their offense.

As for my team, well, they've done ok the last couple of years:

Any team that has won multiple Super Bowls is entitled to be a little arrogant. Pats fans are plenty arrogant, but since their team has 3 rings in 4 years, we don't give them too much shit, because they've earned it.

Philly hasn't done a Goddamn thing, EVER, and so all Philly fans can STFU.

As much as I hate to say it. The Eagles are still the team to beat in the NFC. Even though they do have a suspect running game with the question mark of can Westbrook stay healthy. What makes the Eagles so hard is their defense and not their offense. They tied with the Patroits for second lowest ppg last year at 16.3 in the NFL. They also had allowed the second lowest ypg in the NFC, their ppg allowed was lowest in the NFC. They returned a majority of their starters on defense with the exception of Corey Simon.

Their offense last year was only 8th overall in ppg at 24.1 and 9th overall in ypg with 351.1. The offense also is basically the same minus one loud mouthed Freddie Mitchell.

The problem with the Eagles will be the relationship of McNabb and TO. But, even with that should finish 12-4 or 11-5.

While they are playing in the NFC East. The competition has gotten better.

Both the Redskins and the Giants could seriously contend for playoff spots this year. The Redskins, you may laugh at this now, could actually compete for the NFC East title if the McNabb/TO spat causes any serious problems. The Redskins are returning a defensive squad from last year that put up numbers similar and in some cases better then the Eagles D last season, and that was without Lavar Arrington. While their offense will be much improved because their offensive line is better. They finally have a speed receiver in Santana Moss to catch passes deep from Ramsey, who should have a break out season if the o-line holds up, and they got David Patten from the Patriots who is a solid short yardage/posession receiver. With an improved passing game Clinton Portis should have a monster season. Yes.... I am a Skins fan for the past 20 years!

The Cowboys, thank god, will more then likely be the whipping boy of the East with their aging immobile QB and their mediocre wide receivers. Their only saving grace is Julius Jones who has a chance to be an absolute stud at running back.

That's not saying very much, considering "playoff contender" in the NFC means you have an 8-8 season.

Much like last year, all the good action is gonna be in the AFC, the way God intended!

Maybe, but I personally think that Carolina will be the NFC rep in the Superbowl if they stay healthy.

What was the final score vs the Seahawks on Monday? I was halfway listening to the game and turned it off at "another interception?!".

42-0.

I think, I gave up on it too. I'm sad. Pennsylvania NFL teams are disappointing pretty harshly.

That may have been the most pathetic Nationally televised football game that has ever been broadcast.
On a day when the Eagles retire the number of the great Reggie White, they come out and perform like a high school team. What an absolute embarrassment that was.

After tonight, can we be stopped? No!
You sure about that?

I can squirm with extra joy when the Eagles run the fuck over you.
I squirmed with joy watching the eagles run their sorry asses to the dressing room with their tails between their legs after getting stomped like a narc at a biker rally last night.
Oh, get ready for McNabb/T.O/Westbrook to ram the ball down all your throats.
I think they should concentrate less on throat ramming and more endzone ramming when they have the ball.
It appears that the ramming of throats with said football is an ineffective strategy for winning football games.

Kilmoll: All my VV's against all of yours that the Eagles will win more games than the Steelers this year?
You should have taken that bet, KHole.

I enjoy this thread.
Thanks for bumping it.

I was down by 8 points in my fantasy league before Monday's game. I had Westbrook, L.J. Smith and Jeremiah Trotter to play. I managed to beat the guy I was playing by 6 :P

I was hoping that Philly could defend their home turf in the elements they had last night, but Seattle completely raped them, heh

The Eagles have been totally raped by injury and TO. Just look at their offense: They're missing their starting quarterback, backup tailback, both starting wide receivers, their left tackle, their left guard, and their center. Oh, and their right guard is playing through injury. Their defense has also been affected, although not as strongly. They've also had some bad luck and made some bad decisions. They let Derrick Burgess go, assuming that N.D. Kalu would finally be healthy. Kalu is on the shelf again, and Burgess is leading the NFL in sacks for Oakland.

The Steelers aren't in any great shape either, although they're certainly a better team than Philadelphia right now. The two won a combined 28 regular season games last year. I'd be surprised if they combine for 16 wins this year. The Eagles will probably win about 6, down 7 from last year, and the Steelers will probably win about 9, down 6 from last year. It's ugly.

Miir: I make my hometown bias quite evident. I also am willing to issue predictions on virtually any topic with very little available evidence. I expect to be regularly wrong. In fact, I'll point out a few other bad ones for you:

I claimed that Ricky Williams would be the NFL MVP.

I claimed that Houston was one of the elite teams in the NBA this year, and that teams like the Bucks and Grizzlies were overrated and hopeless.

I enjoy forming and discussing opinions, even if they're not particularly solid. You enjoy sniping at others opinions after the fact. We're both happy and getting what we want here, so keep on keeping on.

It was a pun on the uh, title of this thread? I was wondering when the jack-assing would begin.

And yes, the Eagles are in horrible shape right now due to injuries and TO. They are worse off then the Panthers were last year by a long shot.

MISS CLEO AINT GOT SHIT ON ME!

Not like you need psychic powers to know that TO will fuck any team's chemistry all up. :P Good luck to TO and his agent Mr. Rosenholdout finding that whiny bitch a place to play next season. My advice: hold out for big guaranteed money

Yes! I was getting worried about my earlier prediction on this thread:
Winnow wrote:As for the Eagles, they usually have RBBC but this year it's only Westbrook. He's speedy and a great receiver out of the backfield but I don't see him lasting the whole season carrying the entire load.

Westbrook getting injured finally made my decision of the 1 spot flex position for a WR/TE so much easier to go to :P

Adios Eagles
