First thing I have seen on this subject, so I thought I'd post.

I know this will be near and dear to Teeny/Nick and a few others. I saw this headline and while I still have questions (will this have any effect on extremist splinter groups and what is the status of various "Orange" groups being two of the most prominent), I can't help but think this is a good thing. There has been a "ceasefire" in effect for a while and I hope this will lend more stability too it. Whatever the future holds for the people of Northern Ireland, I think they will be far better off if they can move forward politically and put the cycle of violence and revenge behind them. As ugly as the political arena can be at times, I don't think many would argue the fact thats its infinately preferable to a situation that turns streets and shops into battle grounds and passers by into collateral damage...

Definately a grand turn of events, and one to be welcomed whole-heartedly.

However, as I've said before, the main terrorist groups in NI these days are the Loyalist/Protestant paramilitary groups.

The same pressure needs to be applied to the UVF/UDA/INLA (and the other groups of morons) if any sort of real lasting peace without threat of extreme violence is a serious goal of the people and government.

Overall though, great news

The process was overseen by a retired General so I would hope he knew what he was looking at. And of course this is the most obvious ploy if the IRA are trying to pull a fast one. I don't think they are given the tone of the organisation's behaviour in recent years.

Yeah there's still the loyalist dickheds to worry about as well as the republican splinter groups (Real IRA, Continuity IRA) but this step shouldn't be downplayed. Great news.

I would not bet on a retired general being that weapons savvy, they would have been better4 off having it overseen by an SAS Weapons Sergeant.

Yeah but it was a Canadian general. He was probably looking at a few 50 year old chinese assault rifles and WW2 era german equipment and going "Holy crap I had no idea these guys were so high tech!"

They probably sold it to Canada to upgrade their troops. What is a shame is that the IRA didn't trade them beer too.

the fact that you think that canadian beer is somehow inferior to that piss water you ingest there in northern mexico pretty much validates my opinion that your delusions make you unworthwhile to argue with.

I have spent 18 years of my life more than 300 miles from home, and 9 years a minimum of a thousand. I have been to 48 countries, and have laughed at people like you in all of them.

Closest thing to Budweiser outside the US is shitty beers like Molson, and Bitburger Pils. Only in Germany and to a lesser extent in the Netherlands do you find really good beer, with the exception of dark beer drinkers who seem to enjoy nasty ass guinness.

Actually, I remember a local brewery north of Frankfurt that made Budweiser. It wasn't the same as the pisswater in the US by the same name. So, yes there is German Budweiser!
