Alleged new MQ hack

Post by Xatrei »

This is unsubstantiated atm, at least as far as I've been able to find. BS or not, though, it might not be a bad idea to take no chances for a while.
In the past 24 hours, a new MQ hack has appeared on Saryrn. This hack has allowed people to loot any corpse as long as the corpses owner is not online. So far, close to a dozen Anguish level toons have lost all there equipment, this includes one of my own guilds warriors.

Do not, under any circumstances right now, log off with unlooted corpse.

Yes its true. Roomate told me about this last night. SOE devs are dum or something...

Good news is its real easy to track the characters that loot it.

There is a bug in at least the eqgame.exe (which is the Everquest Client Executable on your computer) and the Everquest Servers (in California) from last Friday, if not before, that allows anybody to create a level 1 character with the same name as any other character. If the higher level character has a corpse anywhere the level 1 character can loot it.
Doesn't really sound like a third-party hack to me. Sounds more like a SOE bug. There was a new eqgame.exe pushed out today. Hopefully it fixes that. Wasn't mentioned in the patch message but who knows...

In the meantime, fully loot your corpses!

Seems it isn't an MQ hack, but anyone could have done it.

There was a server-side patch this morning that was supposed to have fixed the problem. (no new .exe pushed out).

Watching people blame MQ2 for the evils of the world is humerous.
