So if you had 3 suggestions.

Post by Nick »

What would they be?

I am trying to just fill my hard drive up with music as quickly as possible and I really want suggestions for not just good, but FUCKING AWESOME bands.

If I had 3 suggestions they would be:
Godspeed You! Black Emporer - Lift your Skinny fists like antennas to heaven
Sigur Ros - ()
Radiohead - Kid A

We have done this sort of thing before, whereby people vote for their favourite albums, but this is a little different, I need suggestions for albums to download. Specific songs that are either lyrically beautiful/musically amazing are also appreciated!

5 gigabytes done, need at least another 15gigs filled ideally with class stuff. 8)

Currently have all albums by Tool/Godspeed/Sigur Ros/Elliot Smith/John Frusciante/Radiohead/Muse/The Doves/Pink Floyd/Orbital/Prodigy/Sonic Youth/Regina Spektor/SOAD/Hendrix/Oasis/Isis/Damien Rice/Foo Fighters/Incubus/Múm/Mars Volta/Qotsa/Zeppelin/Beatles/RATM /Mice Parade/A Silver Mt Zion/Heatmiser/Pixies/Ataxia/Dylan/ Sex Pistols/Cat Power/Nirvana/Me/Steppenwolf/Can/Focus/The Doors/Massive Attack/Bloc Party/Kings of Leon/Coldplay/

Am also currently downloading Jeff Buckley stuff.

What have I missed ? My heads going a bit numb now :P

Just please no Britney Spears/50 cent crap!

I see Orbital and Prodigy on that list so... an awesome go-between would be Underworld... no specific album but Dubnobasswithmyheadman and 100 Days Off are my 2 favorite.

I'm always digging Jamiroquai. Like Underworld, all of his albums are solid... Travelling Without Moving and Dynamite are my two favorite.

Meat Beat Manifesto... Jack Dangers has been making a wonderful racket for the past 17 years. Storm the Studio has the most creative and offensive use of feedback I have ever heard (it blew an amp and a set of $900 Infinity speakers). Satyricon and Subliminal Sandwich are his two best later works.

I realise my suggestions are probably a little off kilter from your likes but in thier respective genres of music, the artists above are certainly the cream of the crop.

I like the sound of "creative and offensive use of feedback" :D Definately check that out. Think my sister already has some Jamiroquai on the computer already too.

Will also check out Underworld, ta miir :)

Do you like rap? Talib Kweli is the best rapper in the business. He only has two solo albums (Beautiful Struggle and Quality) along with some work with Mos Def as Blackstar. All of it is good. You'd probably like "The Proud" (it's political!)

I know you're probably familiar with him, but Carlos Santana is a musical genius who is ignored way too much. You can get a handle on him via one of the many greatest-hits compilations floating around, but I'd particularly recommend listening to "She's Not There" and "No One to Depend On."
