Formula 1, Verdict?

Post by Linaminu »

Living in Britain there is quite a lot of press reports about formula one and what is going on in the world around it.

Although i do love football (Soccer to the Americans among us) i have always found Formula 1 to be my favourite sport because of the high speeds, the master technicians and the beautiful cars

although it has been a couple of weeks now, a bizarre thing happened at the United States Grand Prix where one of the tyre manufacturers didnt run enough tests and therefore created a tyre that could barley do 10 laps without exploding due to the high banking and the amount of load due to the 9 degree tilt of the pit straight

i know a huge number on this board are Americans and im wondering if any of you were affected by this, did U go to the race? what have you done about it? if U enjoy formula one, what is your opinion of it now? Do you think there is a future for Formula 1 in America and what are the opinions of the press because of it?

May be a useless post but its worth a shot. Thanks

Because of Danica we are actually hearing IRL results on the sportscenter recaps now... it's kinda interesting.

NASCAR bribed Michelin to keep the clearly superior F1 out of the US.

The F1 organisation fucked over the US F1 fans, not Michelin.

Michelin offered to ship new tires to all teams that use their products that would meet the demands of the track, however F1 has a rule that each team and only get 1 shipment of tires and they stuck by it.

Only people that really got screwed were the fans attending the event.

actually F1 teams are required to have two types of tires on hand. The Michelin teams infact had two seperate sets of tires that were legal for them to use. The primary set was defective however, the secondary set was perfectly fine for the Indy race track. However, those tires are designed for adverse weather conditions and are sebsequently slower. Those 7 teams could and should have ran the race with the slower tires and although they probably would not have been competitive, it wouldn't have cheated the fans. To me the responsibility for the event is not F1's fault nor Ferrarri's for not compromising and enforcing the rules instead of bending them. The resposibilty for this crap falls into the laps of Michelin for not testing the tires before qualifying and to the other 7 teams who threw a hissy fit because they couldn't break the rules that have worked so well for so many years.

And to answer the question about my feelings towards F1 racing, it can kiss my ass.

I am certain F1 gives a rat's ass about you telling them to kiss your ass heh.

It comes down to the whole tire rule being idiotic and is the source of countless problems. Not only in the US but several other races as well. The rule should NEVER have been implemented.

Oh and btw it is not safe to run a dry race on wet-weather tires. They wear down way faster in dry/warm conditions since they are not built for it.

Its not as if Michelin could not get track time at Indy on behalf of F1 to test their tires before they tell all 7 of there teams to use a shitty defective tire. It is unreasonable for Michelin to demand a rule change and/or boycott a race because they fucked up.

Neither tire producer tests tires at a track like Indy. It is the only track they see like that including all test tracks.

But they could test there. And if there is a race there and it is unique from all other tracks, then they should to cover their own asses.

Wasn't aware of the 2nd set of bad weather tires.

I agree. The teams should've been forced to run with those.
