I agree on the issue with Israel and Palestine. I dislike hearing the way the stories are spun depending on who killed who. When a Palestinian kills Israelis we hear about the children, but when an Israeli kills Palestinians we hear about how it was attempting to root out suspected suicide bombers. We never hear details about who was actually killed in the Palestinian areas. I think that people have become so numbed to the term "occupied territories" that they do not seem to understand the simple term. This is not Israeli territory, it is territory they took and "occupy." Hell, couldn't all of Israel be considered "occupied?"
What I would like to see is the US backing out of supporting one side or the other. I would like to see anything that is given to either group done in front of the other so that both know who is getting what. Israel is not just seen as a threat in the region because of their religious beliefs, but because of the way they treat their neighbors. I just keep thinking that the next "big" conflict in that region will actually be the result of actions Israel takes against some percieved threat, and the US will "feel" obligated to step in. That is something I do not want to see happen.
As to the media, you can find just about any viewpoint anywhere. Even from a percieved left/right wing media outlet. You may see "dumbed down" viewpoints for one side more than the other, which can lead the viewers/readers/listeners to believe that one view is simpler to understand than the other. This can then lead more people to "believe" that viewpoint as the "correct" way for things to be. I think that too many are counting on the gullibility of the masses when it comes to drumming up support. This goes for the government as well as the media.
