Making Movies

Post by Bubba Grizz »

What program do you use to create movies out of the game? Like that Druid video where he is doing all the pvp? How do you capture that from the game?

There's also one called HyperCam 2. What I like about it is you can actually set the video codec/compression of whatever the file your video is recording too. Can really help if you don't have gigs of HD space for uncompressed footage.

I used fraps, and made a totally campy pvp video. I'm not the best PVPer, but it was damn fun to make/edit the movie. Framerate drops in some places due to either TM lag, or server side lag (like the last clip). First clip is from when I was level 44, last one I was 58.

Fraps worked fine. It did add some space at the beginning of each clip (which you might be able to configure not to) so I used an avi editor to chop em down to the right size. Hardest part was making it fit the music.

Was very well put together, with some cool fades and such. The fights weren't that good though, just a lot of ganking. You're a rogue, so I guess that's all you can do though

Seriously, everyone just tried to run away from you. I think only the druid tried to heal himself, none of the priests did.

How loong did it take you to mix all that and such, once you had the footage?

It's amazing how many people do just try to run away when they get hit without seeing it coming. Personally, I tend to throw up nature's grasp and a free action potion if possible. If I am running, it is only to fight on my terms. I have never had a problem getting away from one person, but they have had problems getting away from me as soon as I turn around and run back at them. I am by no means a master at PvP, but I make sure that the person attacking me does not get an easy kill. I even had a 60 Paladin attack my 23 Priest once, and I basically fear kited him for about 45 minutes before he stopped getting on his horse to charge me and get feared again. Stupid pally.

Every thread for every rogue video I've come across (and that's um..a lot) has someone saying, "it's all just ganking". That's like saying, "Fuckin-A, your mage video has nothing but you nuking and sheeping people." I'm not gonna walk up to you, wave, have a cup of tea, and then start a fight (most of the time). The majority of people I jump try to run because they panic. Hell, I've done the same thing myself after getting jumped by other rogues. It's a natural instinct many people don't learn to suppress. :) At least the one rogue I recorded didn't run.

Editing took awhile because I didn't record all footage first. I worked on it over a period of a month from about level 44 to 57, whenever I remembered to hit record. Then I would take whatever I had at the time, and keep adding to it until it fit the song I wanted to use. If you had all footage first, it might only take a few hours unless you're really anal about it.
