How many Pens have you used until they ran out of ink in your lifetime?

I've never kept a pen long enough for it to run out of ink before losing or misplacing it.

Pens and Ink

Post by Winnow »

I just noticed that my pen is very close to running out of ink. I can't remember the last time that happened before I lost the pen.

This calls for a poll.

The fact that pens are so easy to lose/leave behind irritates me!

Only had one or two run out of ink, I'm terrible about losing pens. Plus I have so many pens it's rare that I use the same one over and over, I just grab one and go to class or do homework.

It all depends on what kind of pens you use. I have a Mont Blanc fountian pen I have had for 15+ years, gone through TONS of ink on it. I use to have a ball point MB as well but it fell out of the tray and got crushed by the security machine at Midway in Chicago about 2 years ago :(

I only had one, and I remember that night very well. Was sitting at my desk doing a draft paper about 'Les Miserables'. I looked at the ink thing and noticed it completely empty.

Never happened again.

Does anyone have any neat pen tricks to do at work?

I can hold a pen between my pinky and thumb, apply pressure and then launch it straight up spinning the pen rapidly in the process. My skill involves the ability to control how high I want to flick the pen and the amazing ability to catch the rapidly spinning pen and repeat the process with less than a 5 percent catch/flick failure rate.

It's huge entertainment at meetings. People sometimes lose all focus and watch my pen flicking ability.

I would like to mix things up if there's another cool pen trick I could used at work.

I can rotate it around my hand (intertwining between my fingers) like people do to coins. I can do it for hours.

Like Iceman did in Top Gun? I take pride in my fancy fingerwork talents but have never mastered that one completely.

When I had to write a lot I used a fountain pen, still have it.

I rarely "lose" a ballpoint anymore, there's only 7 people left in my office...

Another thing to do is have pen disassembly/assembly competitons. Some pens have up to five individual parts including caps and springs, etc. In larger meetings with tables, if the person sitting next to you has the same type of pen, you can get someone with a timer or minute hand on their watch track the amount of time it takes you to completely take apart your pen and put it back together. You need a third party to witness that all parts are completely disassmbled before the assembly process begins to be fair.

I wouldn't try this in a smaller meeting but in those larger ones you can probably get away with this without too much commotion. If you think it's easy, try going up against an ex military person in your organization that had to take apart and reassemlbe an M-16.

I want to know where all the pens come from.... I don't buy pens -- ever, yet I have tons of them. There must be someone out there that buys pens and consistantly loses them so i pick them up or borrow them and use them as my own.
