Not sure who else is following this... I don't like Conseco at all, but I found one of his comments today very funny:

Said Canseco: "The most effective thing right now is for us to admit there's a major problem ... From what I'm hearing I was the only individual in major league baseball to use steroids. That's hard to believe."

Hehe Conseco is our generations Pete Rose. He'll do anything for a buck.

Honestly, between Pro-Football offseason moves and March Madness I could care less about two dozen baseball players jucing up.

I do enjoy ESPN baseball tonight and follow the Mariners casually so I'm not a hater...it's just not interesting.

Yeah, I was watching it until they switched ESPN2 over to tennis.

I need to get fucking digital or something.

Anyways...yeah, it seemed pretty obvious that everyone on that table had every intention of leaving Canseco out to dry. And hey, as long as it doesn't stop progress with cleaning up the sport, good. Fuck Canseco. He and Pete Rose can go give each other reach arounds for all I care.

It was also the open session, and there were a lot of things they couldn't talk about, so it was pretty unproductive. Also some of the questions were loaded as shit, especially considering everyone knew there were a number of topics that were untouchable in open session. Specifically McHenry. He kept asking questions that noone could answer, and then would look down on them like some pretentious fag.

I couldnt stand McGuire. I tink he is a weasel. Ya, w know you're retired and you're not here to talk about the past. Schilling handled himself pretty well, but I do think he wasn't telling the entire story.

One big surprise was the fact that the drug policy had a OR clause. Players can get suspended OR pay a small fine without anyone's knowledge. WOW! Thats a big loophole.

From what I was able to read on espn.com, the MLB players basically stonewalled congress and didn't say shit.

Looked like a total waste of time for everyone involved. I guess the congressmen got some face time.

Personally, I'd like to see drug testing similar to what WADA normally does.

You know, at first I thought the MLB drug policy was going to be a joke. But then I heard a statement made in Court on ESPN about the Policy and part of the Penalty for using Steroids is having your name made PUBLIC for having used Steroids. Wow

Yeah, it's really negatively affected Bonds, Giambi, etc.

Its only made public if you take the suspension. From what I gathered (and congress), you can pay a fine without it having been known in public.

the important testimony was the doctor who was MLB's supervisor regarding the policy, as well as some experts on Olympic testing.

They made MLB's policy look like the sham that it is. There are major loopholes, and the policy as presented to the media is actually much stronger than it is in reality.

for instance:

First positive test would be a suspension of 10 games. that would mean it would be public knowledge.

what MLB didnt say is that there is an option for a financial penalty instead of that suspension, and financial penalties do not need to be disclosed to the public.

additionally there are no masking agents or diurertics tested listed specifically that are banned by the policy. Noel obviously could explain in greater detail (due to his knowledge of cycling) why this is a huge red flag.

ALso, if a player cannot produce enough urine, he is allowed to leave for an hour then come back to urinate. Standare policy with international competition is to NEVER let the athelete be alone once a test has commenced, for a wide variety of reasons that can sabotage a drug test.

that was the real testimony.

the atheletes were called by Congress to give the lazy ass sports media motivation to actually cover the event. i dont think anybody expected much from their testimony.

I am all for strict testing of stereoids but it is ridiculous how much time they spend on the past. The testing and regulations were a joke then and you are paying for it now. Instead of whining about that they need to get stricter testing put in place.
