BTK Serial Killer

Post by Moonwynd »

The BTK serial killer "may" have been caught after more than 30 years.

For those of you that are not familiar with BTK, he has killed a confirmed "8" people in the late 70's through 1986 confirmed. He was then silent until last year...the killings just stopped. Then last year he started sending letters to the local news station...and then sending mementos he took from each killing. The letters have come more and more frequently...and there have been indications that he either wanted to kill again or get caught.

Yesterday the police took in a 59 year old married father of two. All that is known thus far is that he graduated from the university here with a degree in Administration of Justice in 1979. Last night they announced a press conference for 10 AM CST this morning.

"sources" say this is the BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) killer. The FBI is here along with CNN/MSNBC/etc...and last night they contacted the families of the victims of BTK and they are all gathered at City Hall as we speak.

I should mention this is in Wichita, KS..where I live. I actually was unfamiliar with BTK until about a year ago when he resurfaced. I then found out that I live 11 houses away from the Otero house...where he killed his first 4 victims...a mother, father and two young children...the older sibling came home from school to find the mother and father bound and strangled in the bedroom...the two small children were hung from pipes in the basement...covered in semen.

They have done preliminary DNA tests on this suspect and KAKE (local news) sources say there is a match.

According to everything thus far...it looks like this is the BTK killer...and if it is..it is great news for a city that has been terrorized by him for a very long time.

I was watching this on the news yesterday, and yeah while the police were saying he is only a person of interest.. they had already set up a formal press conference the next day with victims families.

I think he wanted to get caught.

I'll wait for the official news that he is caught for sure.. but I do believe he wanted to be caught. If he didn't he would not have sent all those letters.. if he wanted to kill again I believe he would have done that.

My gf and I watch quite a bit of crime shows and BTK was an interesting one for sure.

His daughter contacted the authorities two weeks ago with suspicion that her father might be BTK. The police took blood from her and were able to match the DNA to semen left at the crime scene.

Full story with timeline of his killings and letters sent to authorities and such available here:

I should add that my wife's aunt called me a short while ago. Dennis Rader (alleged BTK) was an usher at the wedding of friends of the family...so my wife's aunt was looking at pictures she has from that wedding...it was kind of interesting that she has pictures of this guy in her photo album. That, and my wife went to school with one of his children.

The full details of everythiing are being kept under wraps until the trial...and rightly so. The state needs to keep the case as pristine as possible so there are no possible avenues for a tainted case and resultant trial.

Interesting day here...
