"If such an attack takes place then of course we will retaliate and we will definitely accelerate our activities to complete our fuel cycle and make nuclear fuel," he said.

"But I do not think the United States itself will take such a risk," he added. "They know our capabilities for retaliating against such attacks."

Are you surprised that Iran would retaliate if they are attacked? I'm not. If somebody walked up behind you on the street and punched you, would you hit back? Personally, I would kick him in the balls where it hurt the most.

If a tank rolled up to your car and bumped you, would you try to steamroll that tank with your car? Nay! You would run, and you would live!

If you were sitting 10 feet from someone and your spitballs could only travel five feet while theirs went twice as fast and could hit you right between the eyes every time, how do you think you'd fare in that spitball fight?

If you had the ability to punch someone and give them a black eye but knew you'd have every bone in your body broken afterwards, would you still punch them? Probably, but eventually you'd try different tactics.

Libya figured this out! Instead of being target #1 in the war against terror, they have given up their arms development programs and since then the US has removed trade sanctions and now americans can also travel once again to Lybia which will flood their economy with money from tourism.

Here we go again... but, just so you selective readers *cough* Hesten *cough* don't miss it:
In 2002, Iran was forced to admit that for 18 years it had been secretly developing the ability to enrich uranium, the first step in building a nuclear device.

As a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran is not allowed to make a nuclear bomb but it can develop a civilian nuclear power programme.

It has argued that it needs to learn how to enrich so it can produce fuel for its nuclear power plant, which is still under construction.

But because of its secret work, the West does not trust it anymore.
Now, lets look at the above quote and do a tiny bit of thinking, not from a western PoV but from the viewpoint of other members who have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty:

If what they(Iran) were doing with their enrichment program was allowable under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, why the heck would they go to such pains to try to keep it secret?

Also, I think that Iran has much more to worry about from Israel in terms of a pre-emptive attack.

Where are the Japanese with their giant robots and laser shields?! We need a new super power filled with space travel and glass cities where the only crime is emotion, people to live in one person cages while injecting themselves with drugs called "V" or "hyp0r"!

i never said i was surprised. i just think it blows that the US is being forced into this position. now we KNOW that iran is developing the capability to produce nuclear weapons and both europe and we want to prevent them from gaining access to a nuke. however, b/c of our fuckup in iraq, doing the right thing if they get one will look like we're trying to take over the world.

and they have every right to defend themselves. but so do we. and if we feel like we or our friends are threatened with nuclear missles, we will fuck them up. but, i don't think if iran get's ahold of a weapon, that they will use it. that's why lybia gave up their program. even if they got one off it would be suicide. the obvious concern is if they are able to help terrorists and/or teeny (i keed) smuggle one into the US and blow it up.

What? They'd retaliate if attacked? Those heartless bastards!

They will retaliate if attacked. Imagine that.

This is posturing to a certain extent, but regardless they've "behaved" for over 20 years, and have become more progressive year after year for the last 15. Leave the Iranians alone, why stir up an anthill?

That said, I think Bush will allow an attack if he thinks he can get away with it. I don't think it's him for the most part, it's the DoD\ex-pentagon loonies in (and behind) his administration.

Not demeaning him at all, but everyone gives Bush a lot more credit than he's due. His direct powers are very limited.
NEVER kick a man in the balls.
Straying a bit, but if someone attacks me I'm going to do my best to take them out as quickly as I can. Gnards are fair game IMO, though not the first thing I'd aim for. A baseball bat to the knees or shooting someone too for that matter. Of course, I haven't been anywhere near getting in a fight in years. Or even in a situation where it might arise, other than the possibility of random loons.
